Chapter name : Into the Reality

My heart skipped a beat. "Them? You mean the men outside?"

She nodded, her eyes wide with fear. "They've been looking for me. For days. I thought I could get away, but..." Her voice trailed off, and she glanced down at her hands, which were trembling.

A cold dread settled in my stomach. Whoever these men were, they weren't just after the guy in the bakery. They were hunting people down. But why?

I moved closer, keeping my voice gentle. "What do they want with you?"

The girl swallowed hard, her eyes filled with terror. "They... they want information. Something I know. But I can't... I can't tell them. If I do, they'll kill me."

I frowned, my mind racing. Information? What kind of information could be worth all this?

Before I could ask anything more, there was a sudden crash from outside. My heart leaped into my throat, and I froze, listening.

They were back.

The girl's eyes widened in panic, and she scrambled to her feet. "We have to go," she whispered urgently. "Now."

I didn't need to be told twice. We both darted toward the back of the room, searching for an exit. There was a small window high up on the wall, barely big enough to crawl through.

The footsteps outside grew louder, and I knew we were running out of time.

"Help me up," the girl whispered, her voice trembling with fear.

I grabbed her hand, boosting her up toward the window. She struggled to push it open, her fingers slipping on the damp glass. Finally, with a soft creak, it slid open, and she pulled herself through.

I was just about to follow her when the door burst open behind me.

I spun around, my heart hammering in my chest. One of the men stood in the doorway, his eyes locked onto mine.

There was no time to think. I grabbed the gun from my waistband and aimed it at him.

"Don't move," I whispered, my voice shaking.

For a moment, he hesitated, his eyes narrowing as he sized me up. Then, with a cold, mocking smile, he took a step forward.

"Go ahead," he sneered. "Shoot me."

My finger hovered over the trigger, my heart pounding in my chest. I didn't want to kill anyone else. But if I didn't...

The man took another step forward, and I felt my resolve falter. My hands were shaking, and I could barely keep the gun steady.

And then, out of nowhere, the girl reappeared. She swung a piece of metal pipe, striking the man across the back of his head. He crumpled to the floor, unconscious.

"Come on!" she hissed, grabbing my arm and pulling me toward the window.

I didn't hesitate. We scrambled out into the night, the cold air hitting me like a slap in the face. We ran, our footsteps echoing in the empty streets, our breath coming in ragged gasps.

But even as we ran, I knew this wasn't over.

Whoever these men were, they wouldn't stop until they found us.

And I still had no idea what I had gotten myself into.
