Vincents POV:

"One, two, three.." I counted each bag I had packed and ready to go. Then I counted the boxes my dad was putting into the moving van. "Four five si-"

"BOO!"

"AAAH!" I screamed and fell off the lawn chair I was sitting in. Ugh, it was my stupid- I.. mean.. awesome and caring brother William! Always happy to see him.

"Soooo sorry I scared you, " he says jokingly, looking down at me with a look your older brother would give you.William laughed at me and put out his hand to help me up,

"Hah Hah Hah yeah real funny aint it?" I say sarcastically. I took his hand and got up brushing myself off.

"It wasn't even that scary. Why are you so jumpy"

"That's none of your concern. I'm convinced you just love the screams of your victims" I emphasize that last part at him. But it was all just good fun between us. As much as it looks like I hate him, He's actually the best thing that happened to me. When I was little I had this weird obsession with having an older brother. I dunno why but I wanted one so bad. When I was 3 I remember asking my mom to pull an older brother out for me. I think I know why they were so concerned about me as a kid. After some years of asking them, I was about six years old and they finally decided to just adopt a kid who was older than me. I mean that was the only way they could do it. They adopted William. A 13-year-old boy from the UK. William became a special part of the family. Of course, William had his flaws that we'll talk about later. But that's what made him special...I think.

"How's it feel? You know leaving" William asked me his voice calmer than before. So was mine when I spoke.

"well...I'm not quite sure." I looked at the house behind us. It was a house with faded red paint and could fit 4 people to live in it. It was a bittersweet feeling when I looked at it. My mind fills with childhood memories, it made me sad I had to leave. But it's a good thing that we get to start over... I guess.

"I guess I'm still processing"

"Yeah... me too," he says. We both looked at the house momentarily before Mom yelled something from inside the moving van.

"YOU BOYS GOT EVERYTHING?"

"YEAH"

"YEA" we both yell back at her and run over to the car. Leaving our childhood home behind. In the van, it was pretty cramped. We all sat next to each other in the front seat, My dad driving. There was silence for like 20 minutes until my mom started talking. She should've just stayed quiet.

"Aren't you boys just excited to see your new forever home?" She looked at us with an exaggerated face. A face that faded slowly after about 3 seconds of us not saying anything back.

"Uhh, I guess... I dunno. I kind of feel sad abou-" her fingers shut my lips closed.

"Ah- ah-Ah we don't speak about our negative feelings out loud remember Vinny?"

"But-"

"Nope! How about you William? How do you feel." She took her fingers off my lips and looked at William. I looked at William with a 'WTF' look. He gave me the same look before speaking.

"Uhm I.. Think.." he kept looking back at me like I was supposed to speak for him. I swear to God.

"I think moving houses is going to benefit this family for many reasons including, new opportunities like meeting friends, school, new jobs, a bigger town, meeting friends"

"You already said that.." I whisper to him.

"What?" he whispers turning back to me. Obviously not hearing what I said. Mom lifts her hand up dismissively.

"You know what? thank you, William, for your... lengthened response for that simple question." she turns back massaging her temples as if she were tired of us not acting the way she wanted us to. It didn't take us long to get to our destination Auora's only like 40-something minutes away from Longmont anyway. The house we're moving into is almost the same size as our old house. Just a bit smaller. We get out of the car and stretch before walking in. The house looked like any other house when it was empty. Nothing special about it. except the wallpaper in the living room had faded blue and green stripes on it. I thought that was cute.

"Wow it's so empty in here," I say my voice echoing as I speak. My mom was already bringing things inside the house.

"You boys start bringing your things into your room," she says setting down a few boxes.

"Room? We share a room?" William said looking a bit annoyed. I don't think he wants to share a room you guys..

"Yeah, you are. Is that a problem?" she asked not really liking his attitude.

"Damn, I knew this house looked smaller!" I say to William laughing a bit just making fun. Honestly, I didn't mind sharing a room. I don't know why he seemed upset about it.

"Please just be quiet," he says walking outside to get this stuff out of the van. He bumped into Dad on the way. Geez why was he so irritated? Doesn't he like being around me??

"Don't worry Vincent he's just getting older. Older kids just like to have their own space. It has nothing to do with you." my mom says trying to cheer me up. I looked at her with an annoyed expression.

"Please just..be quiet Mom," I say walking out of the house to get my stuff. It didn't take long for me to bring everything into my- I mean our room. When I was done I figured, why not go around the neighborhood and introduce myself? So that's what I did. The whole neighborhood was filled with happy married couples and families of four. I had about three more houses left before I was done. Once I got to the last house I knocked on the door and waited patiently for someone to open the door. No one came so I just knocked again. I wasn't sure if anyone was there until I heard a muffled,

"Coming!" on the other side of the door. It sounded like someone my age. After a few seconds, I just knocked again because I was growing impatient. Someone opened the door as soon as I knocked on it. The person in front of me looked young enough to be 16. He had black messy-ish hair with glasses and he looked tired as shit.

"Uhh hi! Uhm I just moved down the street and was introducing myself to my neighbors." I smile at him and hold my hand out for him to shake it. I did this with all the other neighbors I met. I dunno why but. I kinda wanted to stay and talk with him. He smiled back at me and shook my hand firmly. I love a firm handshake.

"It's nice to meet you. I'm Scott by the way" Scott. Yeah, he looks like a Scott.

"Vincent," I said and he let go of my hand and put it in his pocket. After this, usually the neighbor would say "It's nice to meet you" and I would leave. But that didn't happen. Instead, he asked me about where I lived and what grade I was in. He was actually pretty nice I wouldn't mind being his friend. We had a short conversation about school and all that fun stuff. That's when his glasses fell. I went to go pick them up for him but of course, he was already getting them so our hands just HAD to touch for a second. I swear to fuckin god...

"Oh! Sorry..!" I say.

"No, it's alright." he took his glasses and put them back on. After that, I'm pretty sure he just didn't want anything to do with me anymore. Because he started ending the conversation "Well, it was nice meeting you...but I have to get back inside" See what I mean?

"Oh yeah, you're right...sorry" I had a shocked look on my face because I didn't wanna stop talking to him. I give him kind of an awkward smile before starting to walk off his porch. I waved to him "Uhm I'll see you, Scott" he waved back to me smiling . That made me happy. I hope I end up going to his school so I can see him again.
