Oh shit.

What's in her hand?
Oh my fuck She came With that god awful fruit cake.

He didn't want to take it, but being in the mafia a musty warehouse filled with angry men,  has made him less of a people person. His daily interactions will tell you a lot
It's what people call
"too rude to be considered blunt."
But that's what he was used to.

Everyone was kinda snappy and straight forward and this girl was bound to cry if he slammed the door in her face.

....not that'd he do that?

He looked her up and down, finally analyzing all of her features up close, then staring into her eyes.

"...uhhh is your mom home?"

He looked aback. genuinely confused.

"I'm the only one who lives here."

As he said this he could see her change of expression and body language. She look both embarrassed and frightened. She was shaking a bit, was he towering over her? That was bit of a habit—- you have to understand he grew up in the mafia he can't just lose his mannerisms over night.

"Oh?"

"There isn't an older woman with a son that lives here?"

He just remembered the older woman who tried to buy the house. They switched addresses so she'd get confused.

She should be in some random paid off house in California right about now.

"Oh...Yeah, yeah okay. I can see the misunderstanding.  The people who were moving in changed their mind at last minute. That's when I got a call for the houses availability—Are you like the person who keeps intel in this neighborhood or something?"

He did ask that in a more confrontational tone. he wanted to know how she knew that.

"My mom..is kind of uhhh...neighborhood watch. And told me there was an older woman who I could give...this to.."

that amused him.
He was amused by how her mother knew that they were getting a new neighbor, but also suspicious..

"I mean...I can take it. I am technically the new neighbor. I appreciate the gift.

"Uh...yeah I guess that can work."

She gave him the dish.  And he gave her one of  those awkward smiles in return.

She smiled, set her foot downward and skipped down the stairs.

"Thank you!"

He shouted before closing his front door.

"You're welcome..."
her voice sounded from the other side of the door.

—- almost Immediately he took the dish and
Put it in the fridge.

He wasn't planning to eat it.

He found fruit in cake repulsing.

Okay right, what do you do when you first move in somewhere new...Definitely not greet the neighbors .
