Bobbi
A shrill whistle, fizzling and pounding guts through the air. It's a clamor rupturing the still beating of my heart like an untamed flame.
My palms scratched beneath the bark of the tree as I craned my neck to watch Pale Thorn Cove's police department raid Darius's cabin. They smash the windows and drag furniture into the ground. I could see Darius pinned against the side of a police car, his arm at an odd angle and his wrist locked in cuffs.
I flinched, my breathing labored and hollow, sweat slicking to my chest. I shouldn't be here. But I had a bad feeling about this.
Ken wasn't like himself earlier. He was hostile, angry, and had a crazed and wild look in his eyes. I was scared he was going to do something stupid or dangerous but somehow this was way worse.
I knew he was behind this. But I just didn't know how I could help him. Ever since Asia has returned to town he's gone off the rails. He feels his emotions exceedingly aggressively, it was cruel viciousness going unchecked.
I slip back into hiding, my hair getting caught against the bark as an officer shines his flashlight in my direction. Tension swarms within me and I suck in a breath, trying not to let my fluttering fear escape.
"Hey! It's clear!" The officer barks before walking away from me, his feet crunching against the leaves.
I exhale, collapsing into the tree. I glanced to the side seeing a dark figure with a wicked grin plastered on his face. He has his hands in his pockets, watching the wreckage ensue.
I squinted my eyes trying to see through the dark as I stepped towards them.
"Hey!" I hissed. "You're not supposed to be here!"
This part of town was deep in the forest. People called this spot the Screeching Hollow. It was where dead bodies and missing people were always found. Most people were smart enough to stay far away from here.
They turned towards me and I glared at them, my hands clenching at my sides.
"Alastair," I said through gritted teeth. "I should have known,"
He shrugs, kicking the dirt. "I mean he had it coming. If anything he should join the town scum like me. He's fit right in," he says, licking his metal teeth with his tongue.
"Stop this right now," I say, my words dripping with rage.
He smirks, closing the distance between us. "I didn't know you knew him,"
My heart was racing, beating through my chest, thrashing, threatening to shatter my ribs. "I don't," I managed to say.
"I mean you do have a type," he whispers into my ear. His hand grazes my cheek and slides down my neck.
I grab his hand, twisting his fingers away from me. He laughs as I crush his fingers in my grip. I spit at him, breathing heavily as a wad of my spit lands on his face.
He raises an eyebrow at me. "You used to like it when I did that,"
"You're lucky I don't whip your ass right here," I spat, poking my chest at him.
He winks at me. "Don't tempt me Treks,"
"You're disgusting," I say.
"You didn't use to think so," he says, stepping towards me and grabbing my face.
I shove him away from me. "It was one night. A mistake that I will never make again," I say.
"And months of talking under the stars," He says, tilting his head and clicking his tongue. "Now you can't say that was nothing,"
