Asia

As I try to fall asleep again, Allison who was hiding behind my door slowly comes out and says "It's already eight o'clock Asia don't you have your first day of school today? You should get ready..." with a slightly concerned voice.

I groan and turn on my blow-up mattress, wrapping my blankets tighter around myself. "Five more minutes."

"Fine. I guess I'm not driving you to school then."

She closes the door and I hear her walk down the stairs. Just as I am about to fall asleep again my phone rings. As I glance at it I see that the caller ID reads Bobbi.

I grab it off the floor and put it to my ear. "Hello?"

"What's our entrance strategy?"

"Our what?" I say through a yawn.

"Oh my god, we're going to be late. Meet me at your house in five minutes."

"Five minutes?! I didn't even take a shower!"

Bobbi hangs up before I have a chance to protest any further. I quickly flip my blanket off of me and head into the bathroom.

I get ready as quickly as I can and as I head downstairs I hear a car beep, I lock the door and dart across the front lawn.

"If we go now, hopefully, we can find parking!" Bobbi called.

I crouched down to open the passenger seat with my free hand as I held my shoes and backpack in the other. I smiled when I smelled croissants.

"Yes! You got croissants!" I cheer.

She shakes her head, laughing at me as I dropped into the passenger seat and clicked the seatbelt on.

"Just like old times."

My heart ached at her response. "Yeah."

Our parents would take turns driving us to school when we were kids and they always stopped to grab Bobbi and me chocolate-filled croissants from the local donut shop. It all seems so distant now and it hurts more than ever to be in the town I grew up in.

Bobbi reaches for my hand and squeezes it. I sniffle, not even realizing I had been crying.

"Sorry," I say.

"You don't have to apologize. This isn't going to be easy but you have me."

"I missed this, us."

Bobbi smiles at me. "Me too."

I took a bite of my croissant. "How was your break?" I asked in between chews.

She shrugs as she turns her wheel. "I don't know...it was the weirdest Thanksgiving Break I've ever had, that's for sure."

I raised my eyebrow at her. "How so?"

She sighs. "Let's just say I think I saw something I shouldn't have.."

I turned in my seat, intrigued. "Now you have to tell me what happened."

She drinks her ice coffee and just as she is about to speak she decides to change the subject.

"What did you do on break?"

"You are not getting out of this Bobbi, spill."

"Fine. It's about a guy okay?"

I squealed and she winced covering her ears. "Asia! Do you want us to crash?"

"Who is it? Do I know him?"
