The transition back to the living world was not as dramatic as Jung Yoon expected. In fact, it was quiet—eerily so. One moment, he and Tae Ah were standing in the soul world, surrounded by the warmth of their allies and the light of the Festival of Souls. The next, they were back in Seoul, the familiar hum of the city replacing the mystical sounds of the other realm.
Jung Yoon blinked, disoriented, as the familiar world of the living rushed back into focus. The busy streets, the tall buildings, and the sounds of cars and distant voices brought a sense of normalcy, but it felt oddly foreign after everything they had been through.
He turned to Tae Ah, who stood beside him, looking just as bewildered. Her ethereal hanbok had disappeared, replaced by simple, modern clothes, blending her perfectly into the everyday world. Yet her eyes still glowed with the memory of everything they had endured together.
"We're really back," Tae Ah whispered, her voice filled with wonder and disbelief.
Jung Yoon nodded, reaching out to hold her hand, as if afraid she might vanish again. "We are. It feels... different, doesn't it?"
Tae Ah smiled softly, her eyes filled with affection. "It does. But we made it."
Together, they took their first steps into their new life. The city moved around them, oblivious to the extraordinary journey they had just returned from. People passed by, unaware of the souls that had fought, loved, and found peace just beyond the veil of life and death. For a brief moment, it was strange—how mundane the world seemed after the intensity of the soul world—but it was comforting too.
As they walked, they found themselves approaching Jung Yoon's neighborhood. The familiar sights of his apartment building and the streets he had known all his life brought an unexpected sense of calm. It was as if nothing had changed, yet everything was different.
Before they could reach his door, a familiar voice called out. "Hey! Over here!"
Jung Yoon turned to see Minho waving at them from across the street, a wide grin on his face. He jogged over, looking relieved and excited all at once.
"You two look like you've been through a lot," Minho said with a chuckle, though there was a hint of seriousness in his voice.
Jung Yoon smiled. "That's one way to put it."
Tae Ah smiled at Minho, grateful for everything he had done. "Thank you for protecting him," she said, her tone sincere.
Minho shrugged, trying to play it off casually, though his eyes softened with appreciation. "It was my duty. Besides, it wasn't just me. You both fought harder than anyone."
Jung Yoon's heart swelled with gratitude. He knew now that Minho had been watching over him from the very beginning, even when he hadn't known it. The secret Minho had kept, being a descendant of the Jeoseung Saja, had saved them more than once. Without his guidance, without his friendship, the journey might have been impossible.
As the three of them walked toward Jung Yoon's apartment, the weight of their shared experiences lingered in the air. There was a bond between them now, forged in the soul world, one that transcended words.
When they reached Jung Yoon's building, his family was waiting for him just outside the door. His mother rushed to him, her eyes filled with concern and relief. "Jung Yoon! Where have you been? We were so worried!"
His father stood nearby, looking as relieved as his mother but more composed. "You disappeared for days. We thought—"
"I'm sorry," Jung Yoon said quickly, stepping forward to embrace his mother. "I had to go away for a while, but I'm back now."
Tae Ah stood to the side, watching the reunion unfold, her own heart aching with the knowledge that she had no family left in the living world. But Jung Yoon's mother noticed her immediately, her eyes softening as she stepped forward.
"And you must be Tae Ah," she said kindly. "We've heard so much about you."
Tae Ah smiled, feeling a bit overwhelmed but grateful. "Yes, I am. It's nice to meet you."
Jung Yoon's mother gave her a warm hug, welcoming her as if she had always been part of their family. "You're welcome here, always."
It was a simple gesture, but one that meant the world to Tae Ah. She had been alone for so long, trapped in the soul world, without family or friends. Now, standing here, she felt the warmth of a new life taking root.
Inside the apartment, everything felt as it always had. The familiar furniture, the scent of home-cooked meals, the soft hum of the television in the background. Yet for Jung Yoon and Tae Ah, the ordinary now held a beauty they hadn't noticed before.
As they settled in, Minho sat beside them, his usual grin back on his face. "So, what's next for you two? Adjusting back to life is going to be interesting."
Jung Yoon exchanged a glance with Tae Ah, smiling softly. "Honestly, I don't know," he admitted. "We've spent so long fighting to get here that it feels strange to just... be."
Tae Ah nodded in agreement. "But we'll figure it out. Together."
The three of them shared a quiet moment, knowing that their journey had changed them in ways they were still coming to terms with. But the soul world was behind them now. The challenges, the trials, the battles—they were memories. Powerful, important memories, but memories nonetheless.
"I think," Jung Yoon said after a moment, "that it's time for us to live. Really live."
Minho raised an eyebrow, smirking. "You say that like you're about to retire or something."
Jung Yoon laughed. "Not quite. I just mean... we've been through a lot. I want to focus on the present for a while."
Tae Ah squeezed his hand. "We both do."
The sun was beginning to set outside, casting a golden glow over the city. For the first time in a long time, Jung Yoon felt a deep sense of peace. No more curses, no more battles, no more life-or-death struggles. Just life—normal, beautiful life.
As the day faded into night, Jung Yoon and Tae Ah sat together on the balcony, looking out over the city that had always been their home. The future stretched out before them, uncertain but full of possibilities.
They had faced the soul world and returned. Now, it was time to start living in the world they had fought so hard to return to.
Together.
