The sun rose up, announcing the call of the day. It was a beautiful morning of Eid. The guests filled the house with joy and chaos.

Today was Eid and the engagement day together. The air was charged with excitement for both events. Iyaan's mother was busy with preparations. The engagement function was in the evening.

It was a gloomy day for Iyaara, though she was usually playful and carefree. But today, her heart was heavy, and she didn't even know why. She woke up too early this morning.

"Meri beti ko kya hua, itni chup chup kyun hai?" (What happened to my daughter? Why is she so quiet?) Tai Ammi asked her lovingly when she saw her.

Iyaara was heading to the terrace alone.

"Ji, Tai Ammi, thik hoon. Terrace pe jaane ka mann kar raha tha." (Yes, Tai Ammi, I'm fine. I just felt like going to the terrace.) Iyaara replied.

She noticed Iyaan sitting on the sofa watching TV.

"Idhar aao, batao isme se kaunsa lehenga accha lagega Alina bhabhi ke liye?" (Come here, tell me which lehenga looks good for Alina bhabhi?) Tai Ammi showed her pictures of the lehengas.

"Mujhe nahi pata, Tai Ammi. Maine kabhi aise kapde pehene nahi." (I don't know, Tai Ammi. I've never worn clothes like these.) Iyaara said and went to the terrace. Iyaara had never worn traditional clothes in her life. She had plenty of clothes but was lazy and careless since childhood, often dressing like a boy or staying in her nighty all day.

"Isko kya hua, ruko toh Iyaara!" (What happened to her? Wait, Iyaara!) Tai Ammi called her, but she had already gone up to the terrace.

"Lagta mujhse naraaz hai. Maine iske liye kapde nahi liye na, isliye. Warna woh aise nahi hoti mujhse." (Looks like she's upset with me because I didn't buy her clothes. Otherwise, she wouldn't behave like this with me.) Tai Ammi said to Iyaan.

"Ammi, aap kyun itna sochti hain? Aajayegi neeche phir se. Waise bhi kisse darti nahi hai woh." (Ammi, why are you overthinking? She'll come downstairs again. Besides, she's not scared of anyone.) Iyaan said while watching TV.

"Tum jao na terrace se bula kar lao aur usko shopping karwa ke lao." (You go and bring her down from the terrace, and take her shopping.) Tai Ammi said.

"Yaar Ammi..." Iyaan said, but left it at that.

Despite how much Iyaan disliked her, he couldn't ignore the fact that she was his cousin, and they both lived in the same house. He had to care for her.

Iyaara was sitting on the swing chair (jhula). Iyaan opened the door. She turned around and saw him approaching.

"Yahaan kya kar rahi ho?"

(What are you doing here?) Iyaan asked without looking at her.

"Kuch nahi."

(Nothing.) Iyaara replied, narrowing her eyes.

"Kuch nahi matlab? Tumhe Ammi neeche bula rahi hai."

(Nothing? Ammi is calling you downstairs.) Iyaan said.

Iyaan sat beside her on the jhula, keeping some distance.

When he settled down, she gave him an angry look and turned her face to the other side.

"Tumhe Ammi eidi dene neeche bula rahi hai aur woh chahti hai ke main tumhe shopping karwaoon."

(Ammi is calling you downstairs to give you eidi, and she wants me to take you shopping.) Iyaan said.

Iyaara's eyes fell on him.

He was looking handsome.

He was wearing a white T-shirt, and his hair moved with the breeze, making him look even more charming, making her heart race.

For the first time, he was talking to her in a good way. A tingling sensation was growing in the pit of her stomach.

Butterflies were dancing inside her.

She wanted to touch his face.

Sochun main, tham jaye pal yeh, saath mere jab ho tu...

(I wish time would stop when you are with me...)

"Par mujhe koi shopping nahi karni, aap jaayein yahaan se."

(But I don't want to go shopping. You can leave.) Iyaara said, sadness lacing her voice.

"Tum Ammi se naaraz ho? Ammi keh rahi thi... Dekho Iyaara, Ammi tumse bohot pyaar karti hai."

(Are you upset with Ammi? She said you are... Look, Iyaara, Ammi loves you a lot.) Iyaan said, looking at her.

"Chalo mere saath neeche, main tumhe ice-cream khilaata hoon."

(Come downstairs with me. I'll buy you some ice cream.) Iyaan said, holding her hand, guiding her to the door.

She felt good; she wished Iyaan would hold her hand forever.

"Iyaan bhai, ek baat puchoon? Alina aapko acchi lagti hai?"

(Iyaan bhai, can I ask you something? Do you like Alina?) Iyaara asked innocently.

"Kyun? Tumhe nahi acchi lagti?"

(Why? You don't like her?) Iyaan responded without answering her question.

"Aap Alina aapi se shaadi mat kariye."

(Please don't marry Alina aapi.) Iyaara said, coming straight to the point.

"Kyun? Ab tumhe usme kya burai nazar aagayi?"

(Why? What's wrong with her now?) Iyaan asked, surprised.

"Bas, aap kisi aur se shaadi nahi kar sakte."

(Just because. You can't marry anyone else.) Iyaara said, looking at him.

"Toh phir tum hi bata do, kise karni hai?"

(Then you tell me, whom should I marry?) Iyaan asked, retorting, knowing she was about to annoy him.

"Mujhse, kyunki aap mujhse pyaar karte hain."

(With me, because you love me.) Iyaara said, looking into his eyes.

At first, he looked at her in disbelief.

Iyaan thought she wasn't in her senses. He knew she was a fool, but he never expected this from her. She made him despise her even more.

The talk of love and romance disgusted him, especially coming from a 16-year-old girl. The way she said those words enraged him more. He couldn't tolerate hearing such words from an underage girl.

Without thinking, Zain slapped her across the face.

"Tumhara dimaag toh theek hai? Oh main toh bhool gaya, tumhare paas toh dimaag hi nahi hai." (Are you out of your mind? Oh, I forgot, you don't even have a brain.) Iyaan said with immense hatred.

His eyes screamed:

I hate you!

I hate you!

I hate you!

Iyaara looked at him, her hand on her cheek. His eyes turned red. He gave her a look that made her feel he would kill her today.

Warm tears fell down her cheeks. This was the first time Iyaan had slapped her in all their childhood.

"Iyaan bhai, aap please... aap mujhe mat maaro. Main aapse pyaar karti hoon. Armaan kehta hai tab neend nahi aati toh pyaar ho jaata hai."

(Iyaan bhai, please... don't hit me. I love you. Armaan says that when you can't sleep, it means you're in love.) Iyaara held his hand again.

Iyaan pushed her away and stormed downstairs.

Is this the punishment for falling in love?

May nobody Fall in love again!
