The car ride home was comfortably quiet. Moss gave Brook the aux, so they were just listening to Alex G, Jake Webber, and Mitski.
Brook and Moss walked inside their apartment, Brook immediately going for the kitchen.
"Moss! Do you want something to eat?!" Brook shouted. Moss was sitting in the living room, putting on 'But I'm A Cheerleader'.
Moss shook their head, "No!" They turned down their TV.
Brook walked out, handing them a Laffy Taffy. "So, what'd you need?"
Moss took a breath and sighed before turning to Brook. "Like I said, the school called. Um, you need to go across the country basically."
Brook almost spit out her food. "I'm sorry?"
"Yeah, and your, uh, mom needs to bring you there. Well, legal guardian. It's for a school trip, and it's like 70% of your grade. I guess you don't need to go, but you're already failing and this could help alot. It's for some race."
Brook shook her head, looking down into her lap. "But, mom.. she..."
Moss held out their hand, earning a tight hug from Brook. They stayed like that for a few seconds, before Moss spoke up.
"I... can drive you. I can't stay with you though."
Brook pouted. "Aw, but I'm gonna be stuck with a rando, then!"
Moss thought for a second, before speaking up.
"Hey, doesn't Marsh go to your school?"
~~~
Brook and Marsh were on call, while Moss made dinner.
"We what?! I had no clue! How did you know??"
"The school called Moss after my mother wouldn't answer. They're my second legal guardian, technically."
"How? Didn't y'all like- grow up together?"
"Alot of court. That's how."
"Well, shit. My parents probably forgot to tell me. They've been at work all day. You wanna hang out?"
"Sure!"
"Good, cause I'm literally outside right now."
"I'm sorry, what?"
She heard knocking at the apartment door, and looked out the eyehole. Marsh, all fish-eyed, was outside holding two boba teas.
Brook opened the door, giving Marsh a hug. "My exact apartment number? Really?"
Brook had given Marsh her address, but didn't expect him to just show up.
"Well, I assumed it would be fine! Sorry, is it not?"
Brook giggled, letting him inside. "Nah, it's fine. Just- maybe don't do that to other people, they'd be less okay with it. Y'know, warning them first and everything."
"Mm, fair. Oh, hi Moss!"
Brook looked over and saw Moss standing in the doorway, sipping a strawberry smoothie. "Hi." Was all they said before walking back to the kitchen.
Marsh looked slightly nervous, before Brook placed her hand on his shoulder. "Don't worry, they're like that with everyone."
The two sat on the couch, Brook giving the remote to Marsh. "Put on whatever. I'm a fan of all genres."
Marsh put on Dungeon Meshi, correcting Brook when she called it Delicious In Dungeon, and leaned back on the couch.
They talked for a while, before Marsh stood up.
"Well! I gotta get home. It's 8, my parents are gonna be home in a couple hours. We should do this again sometime!"
"Yeah, totally! I'll walk you outside."
Moss watched them walk out, sipping on the last of their smoothie. They smiled. Marsh was a good person, Moss could tell. While he was a bit.. odd.. they could tell it wasn't malicious.
They sat down, turning off the TV and grabbing their phone.
New Moss lore? Maybe. Maybe not. Also, I loved the idea of them being extremely rude and just generally ignoring others, but just as a front. They're actually a sweetheart, and only Brook has been able to crack their outer shell. Well, her and someone else...
