Kimberly sat in the agency's dimly lit briefing room, her fingers tracing the edge of the cold metal table. She couldn't shake the memory of last night.

The heat of Michael's kiss, the way her body responded despite every screaming instinct telling her to run.

She was in deep.
Too deep.

The door creaked open, and Matthew strode in, his sharp eyes locking onto her immediately. He dropped a file on the table, the weight of the situation clear in the thud it made.

"Kimberly, we need to talk."

Kimberly straightened, her heart racing. "What's going on?".

Matthew sat across from her, his expression hard. "We've been monitoring Romano for weeks. And now, we have a lead.
Something big is about to go down, and I need you closer to him than ever before.

" Kimberly swallowed, trying to keep her voice steady. "How close?"

Matthew's eyes narrowed. "You're already inside. Use whatever you've got.
If that means getting personal with him... so be it."

Her stomach churned. She couldn't tell Matthew what had already happened.
Not the kiss, not the way Michael had gotten under her skin. It would ruin everything.

She kept her face expressionless, but inside, her mind was screaming. Then Matthew dropped the real bombshell.

"There's more. We believe there's a mole inside the agency. Someone's feeding Romano information. We don't know who it is, but it's someone with access to high level intel."

Kimberly's blood ran cold. A mole?
The thought seemed impossible.
The agency was a fortress of secrets, built on trust and silence.
If someone inside was betraying them, this was bigger than she'd ever imagined.

She tried to focus, pushing the chaos of her emotions aside. "Do you have any suspects?"

Matthew leaned forward, his expression dark. "Not yet, but we're narrowing it down.
Until then, we can't trust anyone, not even our own. You need to be careful, Kim.
If Romano gets wind of this, we could all be compromised."

Kimberly's mind raced. The mole could be anyone one of her colleagues, someone she trusted. But there was something else gnawing at her, something darker.

If there was a mole... what if Michael already knew who she really was?
What if this whole time, he had been playing her, pulling her into his world to use her?

Her pulse quickened. No, that couldn't be it. The way Michael looked at her, the way he kissed her, there had been something real there. She wasn't just another asset in his game.

Was she?

Later that night, Kimberly found herself standing outside the gates of Michael's estate, her heart pounding as the security cameras swiveled to track her every move. She had told herself she wasn't going to see him again. She needed distance, needed to think.

But she couldn't stay away. She needed answers.

A guard nodded and buzzed her in, and moments later, she was standing in Michael's lavish living room.

He appeared from the shadows as if he had been expecting her all along. His tuxedo jacket was slung over a chair, his sleeves rolled up, revealing the sinewy muscles of his forearms.

Kimberly took a breath.

She needed to be strong, to keep her emotions in check. But the moment Michael's eyes met hers, all of her defenses crumbled.

"You're back," he said softly, stepping toward her. "I wasn't sure you would come." Kimberly clenched her fists. "I need to know the truth, Michael."

Michael paused, his brow furrowing. "What truth?"

"Are you playing me?"

The words came out sharper than she intended, but she needed to know.

"Was this all just a game?
Did you know who I was from the beginning?"

Michael's expression darkened, a flicker of something dangerous passing over his face. For a moment, she wasn't sure what he would do, whether he would laugh, deny it, or something worse.

But then he surprised her.

"No," he said, his voice cold and flat. "But I should have. You think I'm stupid, don't you? That I wouldn't notice the way you move, the way you ask questions but never reveal anything about yourself?"

Kimberly's heart sank. "Michael"

"I don't need to know who you are," he interrupted, stepping closer, his eyes narrowing. "I don't care.
What I care about is that you're here, with me. And if you're going to lie to me, you better be prepared to handle the consequences."

Her breath caught in her throat. She had expected anger, but this calm, icy threat sent chills through her.

This wasn't the Michael who had kissed her with such passion. This was the cartel boss, the ruthless kingpin who wouldn't hesitate to eliminate anyone who crossed him.

But then, in an instant, his demeanor shifted again. His coldness melted into something softer, something raw.

"But I'm not going to hurt you, Kimberly," he said quietly. "I won't. Because I need you, just as much as you need me."

Kimberly's mind was spinning. The contradictions swirling in her head. Was he toying with her emotions? Or was there something real beneath all the danger? She didn't have time to process it.
Her phone buzzed in her pocket and she instinctively reached for it. Michael's eyes flashed with suspicion but before she could react, he grabbed the phone from her hand and glanced at the screen.

His face darkened instantly. "Matthew," he muttered under his breath. "Your handler."
Kimberly's blood ran cold. How did he know? How did he know Matthew's name, his connection to her?
Michael's eyes snapped to hers, his voice low and threatening.

"You've been lying to me, Kimberly. But I've been lying to you, too."

Her heart stopped. "What are you talking about?" Michael's gaze never wavered as he spoke the next words. "Matthew works for me." The room spun and Kimberly felt the ground fall out from beneath her. "No," she whispered, her mind struggling to catch up.

"That's not possible. He's... he's with the agency."

Michael smirked but there was no humor in it. "He's been working for me this whole time, feeding me everything I need to stay one step ahead of your agency.

And you? You're just a pawn in a much bigger game."

Kimberly's world shattered. She had trusted Matthew believed he was on her side. But now, everything was unraveling. If Michael was telling the truth, nothing was as it seemed.
And worse..

If Matthew had been betraying her, she had no idea who she could trust anymore.
