Kimberly stood frozen, her pulse pounding in her ears as Michael's words echoed through her mind.

"Matthew works for me."

It couldn't be true. Matthew, her handler, the one who had guided her through every covert mission, was a traitor?

"No," she whispered, her voice barely audible.

"This can't be real."

Michael's smirk remained, his dark eyes searching hers for any flicker of disbelief.

"You've been in this world long enough to know that loyalty is just another currency,

Kimberly.

Everyone has a price, even the people you think you can trust."

Kimberly's breath caught in her throat. She didn't want to believe it.

Could Michael be lying to her, trying to manipulate her even further?

But there was something in his voice, a certainty that sent chills down her spine.

She had no way to verify it and that's what made it terrifying. She shook her head, trying to grasp onto anything solid.

"If this is true, why are you telling me this now? What do you want from me, Michael?"

Michael took a step closer, his presence looming over her. His eyes softened just slightly, a dangerous mix of tenderness and control.

"Because I know you, Kimberly.

You came here tonight because you already doubted him.

Somewhere deep down, you knew something wasn't right.

I didn't have to tell you, you've felt it all along."

Her heart skipped a beat. He was right. There had been moments fleeting but undeniable, when Matthew's behavior had seemed off.

Instructions that didn't quite add up, information that seemed a little too convenient.
But she had pushed those thoughts away, trusting the years they had worked together.

Now, that trust had been shattered.

"I don't believe you," she said,

Her voice breaking as she tried to hold onto the last thread of her sanity.
Michael's expression hardened, and he grabbed her arm, pulling her closer with a force that made her gasp.

"You better start believing me, Kimberly. The world you think you know is full of lies. You're in deeper than you realize, and if you don't trust me, you won't survive this."

She wrenched her arm free, her body trembling with anger and confusion. "Trust you?" she hissed. "You've been lying to me since the moment we met!"

Michael's eyes flickered with something she hadn't seen before..pain, regret.

"Yes, I've lied. But the difference is, I'm giving you a choice now.

You can walk away from this, pretend you never learned the truth. Or you can stay, and together, we can burn this whole system to the ground."

Kimberly's breath hitched. Stay?

Was he really asking her to join him, to betray everything she'd ever stood for?

Her mind raced as the weight of the situation pressed down on her.

If Matthew was the mole, if Michael was telling the truth, then the agency was compromised in ways she couldn't even begin to fathom.

But if she stayed with Michael, there was no going back.

She would become part of his world, a world of shadows, power, and danger.
And the most terrifying part was, a small part of her wanted to.

The thought of being on Michael's side, of standing with him against a corrupt system, sent a thrill through her that she couldn't deny.
But there was still one more thing she needed to know.

"If Matthew works for you," she asked, her voice barely above a whisper, "then what's his real mission?"

Michael's lips curved into a dangerous smile. "He's been tasked with taking you down, Kimberly. The agency believes you've gone rogue. They're not just watching me, they're watching you."

Her blood ran cold. "What?"

Michael nodded slowly. "They don't trust you anymore. They think you're getting too close to me. That's why Matthew's been feeding them false information, keeping them off my trail while making you look like the loose cannon."

Kimberly's mind spiraled, everything she thought she knew slipping through her fingers. The agency, her lifeline, her career now saw her as a threat?
She had dedicated years to her work, to the promise of justice. And now, she was the target.

"No," she muttered, taking a step back.
"This can't be happening. They wouldn't do that to me. Matthew wouldn't".

Michael cut her off, his voice low and firm. "

"The sooner you accept it, the sooner you'll be able to fight back.
You've been betrayed, Kimberly. The question is, what are you going to do about it?"

Kimberly's mind raced as the pieces fell into place. Matthew had been distant lately, cold and calculating. The agency's recent demands had become more aggressive, their timelines unrealistic.

And now, this Michael's revelation explained it all.
She stared at Michael, searching his face for any sign of deception.
But all she found was that same dangerous certainty. He wasn't lying. Not about this.

Suddenly, her phone buzzed again. She fumbled with it, her hands shaking, and glanced at the screen.

"We need to meet. Now. Matthew"

Her heart pounded. Matthew wanted to meet her, probably to gauge how close she was to Michael. Maybe even to deliver the final blow.

"Looks like your handler has plans for you tonight," Michael said, his voice dripping with irony.

Kimberly's grip tightened on the phone. "What do you expect me to do? Just cut ties and disappear?"

Michael stepped closer, his hand cupping her chin gently, forcing her to meet his gaze.

"No. I expect you to decide whether you're with me or against me. If you're with me, we'll take them down together. If you're against me, I'll let you walk away, but you won't survive long out there on your own. Not with what you know."

Kimberly's heart hammered in her chest. The choice was clear but impossible. If she walked away now, she would be hunted by both the agency and Michael. If she stayed, she would have to betray everything she had ever stood for.

And yet, looking into Michael's eyes, she felt something stir deep inside her, something dark, something powerful.
She wasn't the same person she had been when she took on this mission. She had crossed too many lines, broken too many rules.

Maybe, just maybe, she was ready to break them all.

She looked down at her phone again, Matthew's message staring back at her like a threat. Her hand tightened around it, and then she made her decision.

"I'm with you," she whispered,
her voice steady despite the chaos raging inside her. "But this ends on my terms."

Michael's eyes gleamed with satisfaction, but there was something else there too something that felt like relief. He leaned in, his lips brushing against her ear as he whispered,

"Good. Because the next move is mine."

Suddenly, the door to the living room burst open, and before Kimberly could react, a woman stepped in, her eyes flashing with fury.

"Michael!" she hissed. "What the hell is going on here?"

Kimberly's heart stopped as she turned to face the newcomer.

It was Rachel, Michael's fiancée.
