MANIK'S POV:
After making sure Nandini was hidden safely in the secret chamber, I took one last look at her. Her eyes were wide with worry, but I had no time to reassure her. “Stay here,” I told her, my voice firmer. “No matter what happens, don’t come out.”
I shut the door behind me, my heart pounding. The thought of leaving her there made my chest tighten, but I had no choice. I had to deal with the rogues first. They had crossed the line by attacking our land, and I wasn’t going to let them get away with it.
As I walked through the packhouse, I could hear the sounds of growling and fighting outside. My blood boiled with fury. How had this happened? I had made it clear to my warriors—any wolf near our territory was to be taken down on sight. Someone had failed to follow my orders.
There was no time to think about that now. I would deal with the traitor later, but right now, my focus was on the rogues. They were wild, and, hungry for blood. The sight of them made my wolf restless.
My body was starting to shift. I could feel my bones cracking, stretching, as I transformed into my wolf form.
As soon as I shifted, I let out a fierce growl that echoed through the trees. The rogues turned toward me, their eyes narrowing. They knew who I was. They knew what was coming. But it didn’t stop them from charging at me, thinking they could take me down.
They were wrong.
I lunged forward. The first rogue was slow, and I easily sank my teeth into his neck. He fell to the ground, lifeless, but there were still more to face. One by one, they attacked, but I was faster, stronger.
The battle was brutal, but I couldn’t stop. Not until every last rogue was either dead or gone from my land.
Many of our warriors had already fallen in battle, their bodies scattered across the field. My heart clenched when I saw my brother, Zen, lying on the ground, blood seeping from a deep wound in his side. His face was pale, and I could see the pain in his eyes, though he tried to hide it.
"Beta Cabir," I called out, my voice firm. "Take Zen to the pack doctor. He needs help."
Cabir hurried over, ready to obey, but Zen shook his head stubbornly. "No, brother," Zen said through gritted teeth. "I won’t leave you here. Not like this."
I smiled softly, touched by his loyalty and love. Zen had always been by my side, and I knew how much I meant to him. But looking at his injuries, I couldn’t let him stay. His life was at risk, and I wouldn't forgive myself if something happened to him because he stayed here for my sake.
"Zen," I said gently but firmly. "I know you don’t want to leave me, but I need you to be safe. You’re hurt badly, and I can’t focus on the battle knowing you’re like this. Go to the doctor, and we’ll fight again together when you're healed."
