Upon returning to the base Hector had been hyperfocusing on the information he had gotten from Merlot's personal office.

While inside of his personal tent was going through the notes Merlot had on the green goo which he dubbed Merlot's Legacy or ML for short.
Though Hector viewed his belief that Grimm were a superior as it was:

Completely Stupid.

He did though appreciate how organized his notes were for a loony scientist.
Hector was a chemist and not biologist so he didn't get the more advanced stuff but he did have a general grasp such as understanding that the substance didn't just add to the Grimm's already existing traits such as strength and intelligence but also what Hector understood as the Grimm's physiology as in:
Making their insides stronger as well.
As Hector would put it bluntly:

Steroids 2.0

But other than Merlot's rambling and research on the various ways it changed Grimm, there was nothing for anything else.
Meaning that Hector was starting out from scratch and going in blindly.

Even as a kid Hector didn't really like the traditional process of science but rather coming up with some half-ass theory of what was going to happen and going right to the experimentation.
But on the bright side he did take safety seriously especially after that incident.

Hector who was sitting on a chair leaned back and wondered what it could be used for?
Can it by itself be used as gasoline?
Could it be used in medicine?
Could it be used with dust?

A few of the many ways Hector thought he could apply ML since as stated before, Merlot used the substance exclusively for the Grimm and Grimm alone.
Though he wasn't discouraged but rather anxious with curiosity to start testing but where to start?

'Before I start I need a lab or at least a temporary one before they fix up Merlot's place but what should I test it on?'

Hector questioned himself as he looked at the table that held a single vial of ML and simply crossed his arms thinking about how he proceed.

'Maybe get some of those white lab rats scientists back on earth use but I'm not no biologist... should stick to what I know first before moving on to other things.'

Hector thought before thinking back to one of the questions from just a few moments ago:

Could it be used with dust?

If it did then would it's powderd form be different from its crystallized form?
And would each type of dust yield different results due to each being a different element?

This was up his alley afterall so what better place to start than with dust?
As Hector dwelled his thoughts about the possibilities his scroll that was on the table displayed Ken's number. Answering it Ken said.

"Sidious, I've told the first batch of soldiers to continue keeping away from the green stuff and to not engage the mutated Grimm. They aren't eager but we're happy to know that they won't be dealing with the older Grimm."

"Good." Hector replied with a nod before continuing.
"Say Ken with the equipment, training and numbers how long do you think it'll take to fully take control of the island?"

"Mmm, to be honest around two months by my estimate but considering we got to fix the site then around the thing in Haven goes down if not longer."

"I see..."

Hector said leaning back into his chair once more. Perhaps if they started going on the offensive against the Grimm then-

"Oh Sidious there's another thing I gotta talk to you about but it's something I'd rather talk to you in person." Ken added.
