Caspian woke up in the morning, his head throbbing from the tears he'd shed the night before. Groaning softly, he tossed aside the sheets and shuffled to the bathroom. As he removed the petals from his chest, he placed them carefully on the counter, a silent reminder of the turmoil he felt inside. He brushed his teeth, the minty taste barely cutting through the weight in his chest.
Stepping into the shower, he turned the water on, letting the cold cascade over him. It enveloped him like a soothing balm, refreshing his mind and numbing the emotional heat that had consumed him the previous day. The cold water was a welcome reprieve from the intense pain that had boiled within him, a moment of clarity in the chaos of his thoughts.
He had no appetite and didn't feel like eating. Reluctant to leave his room, he locked the door behind him and sank onto the bed, picking up his phone instead.
"Only you can help me relax," he whispered to himself as he opened his favorite author's account, Nerissa. He decided to dive into some of her short stories. The way she captured the essence of love made him yearn for it, even if reading her words brought him pain. Yet, amidst the hurt, he found a comforting sense of peace; each story made him feel closer to his own love, bridging the gap between fantasy and reality with every page.
Caspian was reading a story about a couple in college.
The girlfriend turned to her boyfriend and said, "You know, if I had a dollar for every time you said, 'I'll start studying tomorrow,' I'd have enough to pay for my tuition!"
The boyfriend grinned and shot back, "And if I had a dollar for every time you convinced me to skip class, I'd have enough to pay for yours!"
She laughed and replied, "Perfect! We'll just pool our excuses and call it a scholarship!"
Caspian couldn't help but chuckle at their playful banter, finding it both relatable and hilarious.
He continued reading, completely unaware of how much time had passed. His parents understood that he preferred to stay in his room to have some space, and they wisely respected that need.
In the story, the couple had gotten married, and the wife was now pregnant. She sat on the couch, pouting, while her husband stood before her with a mix of worry and anger etched on his face.
As he stood there, his brow furrowed with concern, the husband finally asked, "Did you really finish all the ice cream and the chips? We agreed you'd take it easy on those!"
She looked up at him, her pout giving way to a playful grin. "Well, I needed to ensure our baby gets the proper 'chill' factor! Ice cream is essential for their future taste in desserts!"
He raised an eyebrow, trying to hold back a laugh. "Really? That's your scientific reasoning?"
"Absolutely! Plus, I read somewhere that a happy mom equals a happy baby," she replied, waving her hand dramatically. "And let's be honest, nothing makes me happier than a pint of ice cream and a bag of chips! I'm just setting a solid foundation for their culinary preferences!"
He chuckled, shaking his head. "So what you're saying is that you're raising a little foodie?"
"Exactly! I'm just making sure they know that chips and ice cream are major food groups in our family!"
Caspian chuckled as he read the scene, shaking his head in disbelief. "Only a pregnant woman could justify finishing all the ice cream and chips like that," he thought, a smile creeping onto his face. He could almost hear the playful banter in his head, picturing the husband's mix of exasperation and amusement.
