“Are you sure this is the place?” The man dressed in armor whispered.

“Yes! I followed the witch here yesterday after she left the village! I also heard a few others saw her coming from this direction. this has to be the place.” the second one stated.

The knight lit upna torch and approached the hole in the ground. “Let's get this over with.” he handed the torch to the villager to carry before stepping into the hole.

The other man reluctantly followed the knight into the darkened tunnel. “Are you sure you can take on a witch just with a sword?” he questioned.

“Of course, this armor is magic resistant. I've traveled around the country and killed several witches with this sword alone, this one will be no different.” the knight stated confidently.

As they walked further until the burrow, the knight stopped in his tracks causing the villager to pause as well. before them they could see runes painted across the cave walls forming a circle. The runes glowed as a ghostly apparition of the witch appeared before the two men, blocking their path.

“What is it?” the villager questioned.

“An attempt to scare us off, it's a magic barrier to keep monsters and people out and serve as a warning to go no further, but a magic barrier as weak as this is nothing to be afraid of.” stepping forward the knight drew his sword and slashed the apparition causing it to crackle and distort before fading into nothing.

‘don't say I didn't warn you.~’ a feminine voice whispered against their ears as the magic barrier faded completely.

“Let's go.” the knight ordered, pushing forward without an ounce of fear while the villager swallowed the lump in his throat and followed after him.

“Sir knight, why do you hunt these witches in the first place?” the villager questioned as he glanced about the numerous tunnels they passed by.

“because they are abominations, witchcraft is the work of dark forces, any woman or girl born with magic in their blood will eventually turn evil. I've seen plenty of them kill their mothers, fathers and siblings, using them as sacrificial offerings.” the knight stated.

“really?! how can someone kill their own parents?” the villager asked in shock.

“It's in their nature. A year ago I came across a witch who had just recently burned down her own home with her father and several other village men inside of it. she watched as they burned alive and just stood there, looking almost happy about all of it… I was quick to put an end to her tyranny and cut off her head before she could claim anymore lives…they cannot be allowed to exist in this world.” The knight declared.

The villager paused before continuing to follow. “I heard of that disaster from a traveler…but their version was a bit different.”

The knight huffed. “different how?”

“well…I was told that the girl's father often abused her, and allowed those village men to, ‘use her as they pleased’.

“And why does that matter?” the knight questioned nonchalantly.

The villager then stopped in their tracks, letting out a disappointed sigh, drawing the knight's attention.

“you don't feel even the least bit bad for what you do, do you?” the villager questioned, their voice suddenly sounding feminine.

The knight stopped in his tracks before turning his head back to look at the man who had led him here. Only the villager was gone, replaced by a young woman, wearing his clothes.
