"How much will that cost us?" I said kindly to the lady at the front desk.
Apparently, she'd been in the backroom the whole time, eating lunch.
"Let's see..." she said then, squinting down at the clothes, "fifteen dresses, ten blouses and ten skirts? About a thousand two-hundred."
Suki's mouth dropped. "WHAT? THAT'S ABSURD."
The lady just gazed up at Suki, slightly alarmed. "Well, you just came to a hand-made clothing shop with dresses from the Victorian era! What do you expect?"
I just smiled and pulled out my wallet. "That's no issue. I chose these especially for you, my lady, so I shall pay for them, as well."
Suki stared when I slid my card into the reader and clicked some buttons.
"You have a very nice assistant here, don't you?" the lady said then, gazing up at me.
"You knew he was an assistant?" Suki said then, blinking. "Usually, people assume he's my boyfriend."
"Well, usually boyfriends don't go about calling their girlfriends 'my lady' and 'mistress'."
Suki then looked back down when I pulled my card out. "True that."
"Alright, here are your clothes," she said then, handing them to me. "Have a good day, ma'am." She bowed at Suki before looking at me. "And you, too, sir."
Suki nodded and exited the store, me following behind her.
"Are we going home now?" she said then.
"Yes," I said then, completely stabilized despite me holding a hundred pounds of clothing on one arm. "It shouldn't be a far walk."
Suki just arched her brows and kept walking, and I followed behind her.
She then glanced around at this small little shopping town we were in, watching curiously as we passed some stores like a wedding shop, a men's tux shop, and some plate as well as other fancy kitchen décor shops.
She kept looking around before her lips parted, and she blinked, slowing when her locked eyes on a single window.
I slowed with her. "Suki? Is everything alright?"
She just stared at the window, eyes sparkling.
I looked to where she had her attention, immediately blinking when I found a small little bunny stuffed animal sitting there. It had a pink fluffy dress and a small pink lacy eye patch covering one eye.
I smiled then.
Of course, how could I have forgotten? Despite her age, she's still a child deep in that heart.
I then looked down to Suki. "Do you want it?"
She stared for a moment before the sparkle in her eyes dulled and her lips thinned.
She just shook her head and kept walking. "No, I'm too old for toys."
My lashes lowered, and I followed behind her.
We walked for another two minutes before she sighed. "I'm hungry."
I smiled then. "Why don't we stop here, then? There's a nice food truck on our right."
She glanced back at me, but I just stepped over to a small picnic table on the sidewalk and pulled off my jacket.
After lying it on the table, I set the clothes over it before gazing over at Suki. "Madam, if you could please sit here. I shall go get your food."
She just stepped over to the table and sat onto the bench, lips thinning when I walked off briefly to a small little food truck on the side of the road.
"What can I get for you?" the man said, sounding way to chipper for this time of day.
"Hello," I said then, "get me a hot chocolate and some chocolate cheesecake, please."
He nodded. "It will be ready in about five minutes. I have to brew more hot chocolate. Is that alright?"
I glanced over at Suki who was staring down at the table, mindlessly tracing shapes with her finger.
I just smiled and looked back at him. "That's alright with me."
He just typed it into his computer and gazed up. "Alright, that's eleven-sixty."
I just pulled out my wallet and slid my card into the reader, waiting for it to go through before I pulled it out.
"Alright, five minutes," he said then.
I just smirked. "That's the most perfect amount of time."
