Recap:

I was led up the marble stairs onto the third floor, where he knocked on the first large, oak door. ‘This is it.’ I thought. ‘Our fate will be decided now Iris. We will either die in the next few minutes, or we will walk out with our lives spared.’

Chapter 8 - Decision

Imogen’s POV:

A deep voice sounded from within. “Come in.” I shivered and obediently filed in after the guy in charge, whose name I still didn’t know.

I looked around the room, and initially the man situated at the large desk. He looked to be in his early-mid thirties and I knew that this was the Alpha.

Upon spotting me, he sniffed the air and instantly, his face turned murderous. “Why... is there a rogue in my office?” He demanded. All the guys in the room winced from the power in his voice, and the one in charge hastened to explain.

“We found her on the border, Alpha. She said she ran away from the Red Dawn pack and was looking for another to join.” The Alpha looked me up and down. “You know the rules, Drake. If a rogue trespasses, then you are meant to kill it no matter what it says.” He chastised, continuing to look me over with a frown. Internally, I scowled at being referred to as an ‘it’.

“Well... she was a girl. It caught us all by surprise.” Drake murmured in his defence, and the other boys nodded in agreement. I was beginning to feel self conscious under his scrutiny, and shifted on my feet. I looked down to see that the tee was long enough to cover everything, but left all the scars and bruises on my legs and thighs exposed.

“What’s your name?” The Alpha asked in a surprisingly gentle tone. “Imogen Pearl Hastings.” I answered quickly. “Why did you ‘run’ from your pack?” He questioned suspiciously. I hesitated, unsure what to say. He seemed to notice my unease and ordered for the other boys to get out. They instantly started protesting at the thought of their Alpha, alone, with a rogue they knew practically nothing about.

The Alpha held up his hand and waved it to dismiss them again, and they all simultaneously shut up, gave a slight bow of their heads in respect, and quickly left the room, shutting the door firmly behind them.

“Now... tell me the exact truth and I may spare your life. Do you know which pack’s territory you are currently in?” He asked in a dangerously smooth and gentle voice. I shook my head, my heart pounding heavily in my chest. “This is the Blood Moon pack.”

I froze. The Red Dawn pack and the Blood Moon pack were frenemies. They each wanted to get rid of the other pack, but weren’t stupid enough to try. Although the Red Dawn pack had the numbers, the Blood Moon pack were best known for being ruthless killing machines, and being loyal to their fearsome leader, Adam Smith. With that thought in mind, all blood drained from my face.

Adam laughed at my expression. Then his face immediately smoothed out and he turned serious. “Now tell me why I should believe you actually ran away from your pack, and that you’re not a ‘lethal spy’ sent to bring us down from the inside.” He chortled at the idea, and I had to admit, I could see his suspicions were well deserved.
