Roman and June celebrated their bonding with festivities for the rest of the month. Food was plenty, street games were widely available. Even the Omegas who were not punished were allowed to partake. Their counterparts took care of serving the pack. The Omegas all moved into the packhouse, and June was able to visit Helga briefly.
The Luna, glowing with her union, stood outside Helga's door. "I understand, Helga. We're just in different worlds now. You'll never stop being my friend, and I'm glad we got your mother to more comfortable quarters."
Helga smiled softly, her mother puttering around in the background. "I hope I see you sometimes, Luna June."
June hesitated, tempted to hug her old friend, but their history had become too fraught. When she looked at Helga, she could feel the fear from her kidnapping. The disappointment that her friend was so involved. She nodded at Helga. "I am sure our paths will cross."
As she turned to leave, she felt like she could see a glint of red, almost like a ruby, a necklace, on Helga. But she must have been mistaken. She had been feeling a little paranoid lately, like eyes were following her, like Ruby was waiting around every corner. She shook herself as though trying to shed the worries like water droplets on her pelt.
The Luna and Alpha had been celebrating alongside the pack, playing games and feasting by day, and by night, the whole pack could hear Roman howl when he claimed his Luna. They were working on putting in sound proofing. The couple seemed either lost in bliss in each other's arms or trying their hardest to make a child. Luna Melissa and Alpha Joe had moved to a smaller house, a guest house on the property, slowly passing their duties to the newly joined couple. The Canis Pack had never been stronger than with a second generation of fated leaders, paired by the moon goddess.
From the distance, sheltered at the edge of the woods, a dark hooded figure stood. Arms crossed, they rested carefully on a rounding belly. She was pregnant, no more than a few months, but her body was starting to show. Her eyes shone with a gleam of determination, her teeth gleaming. Ruby tucked a ringlet of red hair behind her ear and turned her back to the celebrations. They would regret their actions, she vowed and wrapped her hand protectively around her belly. They would pay.
