The episode begins right where the previous episode left off, with the main group in the middle of Viridian Forest, with Ash ready to catch a wild Caterpie, and (Y/N) about to catch a wild Nidoran.
Narrator: Deep in the dark Viridian Forest, Ash discovers a Caterpie and tries his best to make his first Pokemon catch! Nearby, (Y/N) also is ready for his first catch, with the Nidoran he helped out back in Route 1.
Ash: (turns his hat backwards) Caterpie, you're mine!
With a flick of his wrist, Ash throws the Pokeball in his hand, watching it fly through the air and strike the Caterpie on the head, before pulling it into the Pokemon-catching item. Once landing on the ground, the Pokeball begins to shake back and forth, the Caterpie inside silently debating on whether it should let itself be caught, or break free. Over with (Y/N), he holds a Pokeball in his hand, to which Nidoran eagerly taps, entering inside as it shakes back and forth.
As the two young Pokemon trainers patiently await for what the two Pokemon will choose, and as they slowly become nervous, both Pokeballs give off a click sound and stop shaking, signalling that both Caterpie and Nidoran have been caught, which cause (Y/N) and Ash to slowly smile, before cheering out.
Ash: (excited) Yes, I did it! (picks up the Pokeball and happily laughs) I did it! I got Caterpie! I did it all by myself. I caught my first Pokemon! (turns to (Y/N)) Aren't you excited, (Y/N)? This is the first step for us on our way to becoming the best Pokemon Masters in the whole world!
(Y/N): (looks to Ash and smiles) Of course I'm excited, Ash! I just got me a new friend to join us on our journey! (turns to the Pokeball) But now I'm just trying to think of a nickname for the little guy.
Misty: (curious) Hey, just a question, (Y/N). Why are you giving your Pokemon nicknames?
(Y/N): O-Oh, well, I do it because I believe that if you give your teammates nicknames, then you'll be able to form a strong bond with them. My dad had nicknamed his starter when he began his journey, and I wanna honour him by doing the same.
Misty: (smiles) Aww, that's so sweet. So, what are you gonna call the little Nidoran?
(Y/N): (thinks for a moment) I was thinking of the name "Noko" for him. (looks at the Pokeball again) It sounds both like a strong name and a caring one at the same time, and despite being hesitant to trust me, Nidoran- I mean Noko, showed enough kindness in him to give me a chance, despite his Pokemon Type.

After giving his reason, Ash then lifts (Y/N) up onto his feet and starts dancing with him, both of them having their newly acquired partners' Pokeballs in their hands, before Ash gets Misty involved.
(Y/N): (laughs alongside Ash) Alrighty, Ash! I get it, excitement like this can't be contained any longer!
Misty: (calling out) Hey, wait a minute! Let me go! I'm getting dizzy! Ash, I'm gonna get sick! Quit it!
Ash: (not paying attention) Look out, Pokemon! Nothing's gonna stop me now!
As Ash continues to remain excited and Misty trying to tell him she's getting nauseous, Pikachu watches the three humans go around in circles, eventually leading to him getting dizzy and falling to the ground. Seeing this, Rengoku leaps off (Y/N)'s shoulder, and lands right beside the electric mouse.
Rengoku: (concerned) Charmander, mander char char? (pokes Pikachu a few times)
Pikachu: (exhaustedly) Pika...
