K. (Cigarettes after sex)-

Think I like you best when you're just with me

And no one else

【===】

September 1st 1971

I winced as my mother's sharp nails dug into my back, reminding me for what felt like the millionth time to stop slouching.

Despite her annoying reminders and scowls at anyone who looked in our direction, I was in an excellent mood today. Because today I was going to Hogwarts.

I stood on platform 9 and 3/4, surrounded by other Pureblood families, as we all received the same lecture.

Don't befriend muggleborns, steer clear of blood-traitors, and no matter the circumstances, don't get sorted into Gryffindor.

You'd think they'd be less insistent on something that we literally couldn't control. Or most couldn't control. I doubt the sorting hat has ever come across someone with as much sheer willpower as a Travers.

Glancing around me, my eyes found a familiar set. I grinned at Sirius, who was blatantly ignoring his mother and focusing instead on giving me a cheery thumbs-up.

Both of us had been dreaming about this day, I knew that much. Eager to escape our parent's grips, to finally escape all the expectations and be free for a few short months.

"Katherina!" my mother snapped, grabbing my face and turning me away from Sirius, "are you even listening?"

I nodded, smiling as innocently as possible, "yes Mother," I assured her.

"You don't seem it, child," she chastised, "honestly you'd think your hearing was damaged!"

Before I could reply I felt a large force push into me, knocking me forward as a quiet voice followed. "Oh, darling!" The woman called, "I'm so sorry!"

The woman looked sincerely apologetic as she held a hand out to stop her husband from pushing a large trolley. They had a young boy with them, he had gold-rim glasses and messy jet-black hair. "James come and apologize to her this instant!" She called him, ignoring how red his cheeks were going.

My mother, who was watching distastefully stepped forward and placed a hand over my chest pulling me back. "Euphemia," she spat, "how dare you."

The woman looked up, smiling lightly as she brushed her hair out of her eyes, "Eileithyia! I see you haven't changed since school."

The subtle sarcasm didn't go unnoticed as I smirked, trying to loosen my mother's grip on me.

She scoffed from above me, "I see you haven't either, still courting around that excuse for a man?" She asked the woman, looking at the older man who was pushing the trolley up and down judgementally.

The woman smiled, wrapping an arm around him as I continued to struggle against my mother's grip, "I am, and you're still with Polonius?"

My mother nodded tensely, "He's working at the ministry. He's just so important they couldn't spare him today."

The woman laughed. It was an elegant sound, nothing like the dry haughty laugh my mother makes. "I'd double-check that," she said with a smile, "wouldn't want him to be with Aquilla again would you?"

I couldn't help the laugh that slipped from my lips, causing everybody to turn down to look at me. The woman smiled at my reaction, winking at me before tugging on her husband's arm, "come on James," she instructed her son, "You should be getting on the train now... perhaps this young lady could go with you."
