Walter's pov

The next morning, I woke up to the sound of Henry singing loudly from the bathroom. He always did this—sang at the top of his lungs, as if no one could hear him. It was one of the things that used to annoy me at first, but now I kind of liked it. It was just... him.

"Come on, Walter!" he yelled through the door. "We're gonna be late for class, man. You know Svensson hates it when we're late!"

I groaned and sat up in bed, rubbing my eyes. Henry was right. Mr. Svensson wasn't exactly forgiving when it came to tardiness, and I really didn't feel like getting another lecture today. I grabbed my uniform from the chair, quickly changing as Henry came out of the bathroom, still singing some random pop song.

"You ready?" he asked, running a hand through his messy hair, making it stand up even more.

"Yeah, let's go," I muttered, trying not to look at him too much. But it was hard. His red hair was kind of all over the place, and somehow it looked... cute?

What's wrong with me? I thought again as we left the room and headed to class.

We barely made it on time. Mr. Svensson was already starting his lesson when we slid into our seats. Henry sat next to me, as always, pulling out his notebook and making faces at me as Svensson droned on about Swedish history. I stifled a laugh, trying to focus, but it was impossible with Henry acting like a total clown beside me.

"Psst," he whispered, leaning close. "Look at this."

I glanced over, and Henry had drawn a ridiculous cartoon of Mr. Svensson with an oversized head and tiny legs, giving a lecture to a class full of snoring students. I bit my lip to keep from laughing out loud. Henry grinned, clearly proud of himself.

"You're gonna get us in trouble," I whispered back, nudging him with my elbow.

He shrugged, still smiling. "Worth it."

A few minutes later, Henry reached over and poked my arm with his pen, pretending to take notes but actually writing random doodles all over the page. I tried to swat his hand away, but he just kept at it, scribbling little stars and smiley faces on my notes.

"Stop it," I whispered, but I couldn't help grinning. He was such a distraction, but in the best way.

At some point, Svensson turned around to write something on the board, and Henry took the chance to lean in closer.

"Hey, Walter," he whispered, his breath warm against my ear. "Wanna skip next class? We can hide in the library or something."

I rolled my eyes, trying to act serious, but inside, I kind of liked the idea. Being alone with Henry, away from everyone else... I wasn't sure why, but the thought made my stomach flip in a weird way.

"I don't know..." I started, but then he gave me that look. The one where his blue eyes go wide, and he sticks out his bottom lip, pretending to beg. He knew I couldn't say no to that face.

"Please," he whispered, his voice almost playful. "I promise I'll help you with your homework later."

"Fine," I sighed, shaking my head. "But if we get caught, it's on you."

Henry grinned, satisfied, and sat back in his seat like he'd just won some big victory. The rest of class dragged on, but I couldn't stop smiling, knowing that we'd be sneaking out together soon.

When the bell finally rang, we waited until everyone else had left before making our move. Henry grabbed my arm and pulled me toward the door, laughing under his breath as we ducked into the hallway. We took a quick detour around the main corridor, heading toward the library where we knew no one would bother us.

Once we got there, we found a quiet corner in the back, surrounded by tall shelves of old books. It was peaceful, with just the faint sound of pages turning from some of the other students studying nearby. Henry flopped down into one of the chairs, looking more relaxed than ever.

"See? This is way better than class," he said, kicking his feet up on the table. "No boring lectures, no homework... just us."

I sat down across from him, feeling the same weird mix of nervous and excited. It was always easy being around Henry, but now there was this new tension in the air, something I didn't understand yet.

"So," I said, trying to sound casual. "What are we gonna do now?"

Henry thought for a moment, then grinned. "Wanna play a game?"

"A game? What kind of game?"

"I don't know. Something fun. Like... truth or dare."

I raised an eyebrow. "Really? Truth or dare? What are we, twelve?"

Henry shrugged, but his grin didn't fade. "Come on, it'll be fun. You go first. Truth or dare?"

I hesitated, not sure where this was going, but eventually sighed. "Fine. Truth."

"Okay..." Henry tapped his chin, pretending to think hard. Then he leaned forward, his eyes twinkling mischievously. "Have you ever had a crush on anyone at Hillerska?"

I felt my heart skip a beat. My first instinct was to laugh it off, but suddenly the question didn't feel like a joke. My mind immediately flashed to Henry, sitting right in front of me, his face lit up with that playful grin.

I swallowed, trying to act normal. "Uh... I don't know. Maybe."

Henry raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued. "Maybe? That's not an answer. You've gotta be more specific."

I shrugged, avoiding his gaze. "What about you? Truth or dare?"

Henry leaned back in his chair, thinking for a second. "Dare."

I smirked, trying to come up with something good. "I dare you to... steal a book from the librarian's desk."

Henry's eyes widened, but then he broke into a laugh. "You're evil," he whispered, shaking his head. "Fine, fine. Watch me."

He stood up, giving me a wink, and quietly made his way over to the front desk where the librarian was sitting, reading a magazine. I held my breath, half expecting him to get caught, but of course, Henry was too smooth for that. He casually grabbed a random book from the corner of the desk and slipped back over to our table like it was nothing.

"Ta-da," he whispered, holding up the book triumphantly. "I should be a spy."

I laughed, feeling that same warm feeling I always got around him. Being with Henry was... easy. Fun. And, well, lately, it was starting to feel like something more.

But I wasn't sure if I was ready to figure that out yet.
