Sandra raised an eyebrow. "Oh? And what did you expect?"
"I don't know," he said, grinning. "You seemed quiet, like you were always in your own world. But you're... fun."
Sandra's heart fluttered at his words. Maybe this was how it started—just two people discovering each other in ways they hadn't anticipated.
As they left the café, Sandra felt lighter. Walking beside Aaron, the world didn't seem so overwhelming anymore.
"Same time tomorrow?" Aaron asked, looking at her with a playful glint in his eyes.
Sandra smiled, her heart full. "Maybe," she teased, echoing his earlier tone.
Aaron chuckled. "I'll take that as a yes."
The next few days seemed like a dream. Coffee became a regular thing, and with each meeting, Sandra found herself more comfortable around Aaron. Despite his laid-back attitude, there was a depth to him that she hadn't expected—one that made her feelings for him grow.
One afternoon, after their usual coffee, they strolled around campus, chatting about everything from assignments to random movies they'd seen. Sandra's shyness had faded, and she found herself talking more freely around him, laughing at his witty remarks.
"You know," Aaron began, his voice more serious than usual, "I didn't expect this."
Sandra looked at him, curious. "Expect what?"
"This." He gestured between them. "I mean, I didn't think I'd click with someone like you."
Sandra's heart raced at his words, unsure if he meant it in a good way or not. "What do you mean?"
Aaron shrugged, his usual easy smile in place. "You're different. In a good way. I usually hang out with people who are loud, always partying, you know? But you... you're quieter, more thoughtful."
Sandra smiled softly. "I thought you liked that kind of crowd."
"I do, but," he paused, searching for the right words, "I like this too."
They stopped by a bench near the library, the late afternoon sun casting a warm glow over the campus. Sandra sat down, her heart fluttering. Could it be? Could he actually like her in the same way she was starting to like him?
"Do you miss your friends back home?" she asked, steering the conversation somewhere a little safer.
"Sometimes," Aaron admitted, sitting beside her. "But this place has been good to me. And now... it's getting better." He glanced at her, his eyes softening.
Sandra felt a warmth bloom in her chest. "I'm glad."
For a moment, there was silence between them, but it wasn't uncomfortable. Sandra felt at ease, just sitting there with Aaron, the two of them caught in the stillness of the moment. She had never imagined things would unfold like this.
As the sun began to set, Aaron stood up, stretching his arms. "I should head back, but hey, let's hang out again tomorrow? Maybe we can study together this time—show me some of those famous D-section notes," he teased.
Sandra laughed, standing up as well. "Deal. But don't blame me if you get bored halfway."
He gave her a mock-serious look. "I'm counting on you to make it interesting."
They walked back toward the main road, and as they said their goodbyes, Sandra realized that this was more than just a simple crush now. She had grown to like Aaron not just for his looks or his carefree attitude, but for the person he was underneath. And for the first time, she felt that maybe, just maybe, he liked her too.
As she watched him walk away, Sandra couldn't help but smile. Tomorrow seemed full of possibilities.
