Visha returned home to see her father and Mr Jameson talking, "Hi Mr Jameson, how are you?". The girl asked as she placed a bag of last-minute groceries on the table. The man looked over at her and smiled. The older man had been a lawyer for nearly 30 years, and she knew that this was not a social visit.
"What are you doing, Dad?"
The two men winced at the dry, but suspicious, tone. Mr Jameson handed Visha the documents, and they watched as Visha slowly read every word on the page, not stopping for about fifteen painful minutes. "So, you're suing her?"
Charlie nodded "On both our behalf and for the funeral cost" Visha's eyes ran over the document and then she sighed "Unfortunately you can't sue her for the adoption really" The two men looked at Visha with curious expressions before the girl bit her lip and let out a shallow sound.
She avoided meeting their eyes before she said, "Technically, she obtained your permission for boarding school and a host family a year before I was sent away." She was right. Renee had got his permission. She had informed him that Visha desired to attend a performing arts school abroad and required his permission. He had agreed to all of it just to make his angel happy.
If he knew Renee would use it a year later to send her away, he would have never signed. Mr Jameson frowned before clearing his throat. "A host family is not adoptive parents. We can still go after her, don't worry".
The two Swans relaxed, and Visha handed back the papers. She couldn't disclose to them that a supernatural family agency had handled the adoption. She could not tell them that a mortal passing member of a supernatural denomination would preside over the case. Or that they might throw out the kidnapping charge.
Renee would be responsible for emotional and mental, probably even financial damages, but her adoptive family, who had bound themselves to her through blood and magic, had ensured that she lived a safe and protected life. In their community, it meant that her soul, at least, was meant to be with this family.
They would not see it as kidnapping, but the young woman kept her secrets to herself and walked up to her room. To her surprise, Jasper sat on her bed. Putting down her bags, she spoke "Jasper?"
The unspoken "What are you doing here?" hung in the air, the vampire gazed at his girlfriend and tilted his head. Visha noticed his conflict but remained patient, waiting for him to speak. Jasper watched as she sat down opposite him and gave a nod, indicating that she was listening.
"Last night, when I asked you about your adoptive parents, you referred to them in the past tense. I felt your grief." There was a note of hesitation before he asked, "Was that fake?"
His question caused her to pull back, her brown his now glowed a shade of red he had never seen before. Suddenly, he could not feel her emotions. Jasper suddenly felt overwhelmed by fear. The urge to panic rushed through him before fading away suddenly.
Visha gave him a blank look, and finally, Jasper realised he was seeing her true face. The smiles and blushes belonged to the human girl she used to be. He should have remembered the changes from human to supernatural stripped you of some things.
"The grief was real. After all, they had to stage their deaths; they did not show themselves to me till after I decided to find Charlie". Jasper nodded, now understanding that Visha had mourned her mortal adoptive parents and then eventually accepted the new positions they were in.
The vampire stared at his mate. Her voice was soft but monotone. There was no emotion, just words and an explanation. It made him a bit calmer, realising that she was allowing him to see what she truly was.
Standing up, he walked over and gently raised her chin so she would be looking into his eyes. "I prefer the real you. There is no need to force anything with me," he whispered. Visha's expression did not change, but he felt her gratitude and noticed the change in her eyes.
"My kind is possessive, and our emotions fuel our abilities most before becoming immortal. Learn to fake the physical aspects of an emotion. We learn how to lock them up and let things stay deep inside to prevent any disasters" She softly played with his hair, her tone still emotionless, but she directed all her affection at him.
"When we let it slip, it is controlled so we don't lose control. Not everything has been fake with you" She paused. "I have just been measuring my control." Jasper smiled and leaned forward, pressing a soft kiss against her lips.
Visha felt her control slip as she melted into the kiss. The need to have him was strong. The mating bond now coiled around them felt like it had been pulled tight. Visha's eyes glowed a bright silver before she pulled away. "Not in my father's house"
Jasper nodded. "I'll pick you up in an hour". The girl nodded and watched as the vampire quickly left her room. Her hands shook as she lowered herself to the ground. She wasn't lying when she told him about the danger of letting her emotions take over.
Taking a deep breath, she outed the candles that had been lit around her room. "Damn," she whispered as the full moon shone into her room and her mother appeared. "That was spicy, darling," Seo-Yeon stated while wiggling her eyebrows. Visha blushed heavily as her mother sat beside her.
"It's okay to lose control, my love". The woman whispered as she stroked her daughter's hair, "Remember our lessons, my dear, locking away your emotions only works until you explode". Visha nodded and looked up at her mother. "Thank you eomma" The woman smiled and kissed her head before disappearing.
Visha smiled and decided to take things into her own hands. Grabbing her favourite tote bag, she packed two sets of clothes, her laptop, toiletries, and a black pouch they would use later. The girl then changed into a grey long-sleeve high-neck sweater dress before pulling on her thigh-high boots.
Glancing at herself in the mirror, the woman nodded and grabbed her tote bag. Walking down the stairs, she kissed her father on the cheek. "I'm going to be spending the night with Jasper". Charlie nodded before choking on his beer and letting out a strangled "What".
Visha smiled. "I am on the shot," she whispered to her father before gently rubbing his hand. Charlie turned red and nodded "So umm does he know" Visha smiled at her father "We discussed it". Charlie nodded, a bit awkward but relaxed. "Once you are being safe and not hiding it from me."
Visha nodded and listened as Jasper pulled up and knocked on the door. The girl allowed her dad to open the door. She watched as the man shook Jasper's hand and softly whispered for him to take care of her. After it was evident that the two had concluded their conversation, she walked over to Jasper.
"Shall we?"
Jasper offered her his arm. "We shall Darlin" Visha gave her father a quick hug and then two left. Charlie watched from the door and sighed. "At least she told me" The man watched as the car drove off before slouching, "I need a beer or maybe a barrel."
