The bell rang sharply, signaling the end of the school day. Students flooded out of classrooms, excited for the weekend. Taehyung stretched in his seat, glancing over at Jungkook who was shoving his textbooks into his backpack."You coming to the arcade later?" Taehyung asked, his voice casual but with a hint of eagerness.
Jungkook paused for a second, considering. He had been swamped with assignments all week, and the idea of some downtime sounded perfect. But something was off. He had felt strange all day, as though an invisible weight was pulling on him, making him feel oddly out of place.
"Maybe," Jungkook replied, slinging his bag over his shoulder. "I've got some homework to finish up first. But I'll text you if I can make it."
Taehyung nodded, though the flicker of disappointment was obvious in his eyes. He wasn't one to push, though.
"Alright, don't take too long," Taehyung grinned. "You know I can't win against Jimin if you're not there to back me up."
Jungkook chuckled, shaking his head. "Don't blame me for your terrible aim."
As they walked out of the classroom together, Taehyung nudged Jungkook lightly with his elbow. It was a small gesture, something that might have seemed insignificant to anyone else, but it always made Jungkook feel like there was something... more. Something he couldn't quite explain.
That feeling had been growing stronger recently.
"Hey, you ever feel like..." Jungkook began but trailed off, unsure of how to phrase what he was feeling. It sounded silly in his head, and he didn't want to seem weird.
"Like what?" Taehyung asked, turning to look at him with genuine curiosity.
Jungkook bit his lip. "I don't know. Like something is pulling you... I guess?"
Taehyung raised an eyebrow, his eyes twinkling with mischief. "Pulling? Like gravity? Or are you saying you feel attracted to something?" He wiggled his eyebrows dramatically, making Jungkook laugh despite himself.
"No, idiot," Jungkook punched him lightly in the arm. "Not like that. It's just... weird. Forget it."
Taehyung didn't press the issue, but his smile softened as they walked in comfortable silence for a few moments.
As they neared the school gates, Jungkook noticed something. It was faint but unmistakable. A thin red thread. It was so fine that it was nearly invisible to the naked eye, but it shimmered slightly in the afternoon sun. His eyes followed the thread-it seemed to be attached to his wrist. It stretched out into the air, seemingly leading nowhere.
Jungkook stopped dead in his tracks, staring at the thread. His heart raced, and a sense of confusion mixed with wonder filled him.
"You okay?" Taehyung asked, noticing Jungkook had stopped. He followed Jungkook's gaze, but he didn't see anything unusual.
"Do you... do you see that?" Jungkook pointed to his wrist, where the thread was clearly attached.
Taehyung blinked, his brows furrowing in confusion. "See what?"
"The thread..." Jungkook muttered, but when he glanced down again, the red thread was gone. "It was right here. I swear."
Taehyung tilted his head, a teasing smirk forming. "Kook, have you been staying up too late again? Maybe you're hallucinating."
Jungkook shook his head, flustered. "No, I'm serious. There was this red thread. It looked like... I don't know... some kind of string tied to my wrist."
"Are you sure it wasn't your imagination?" Taehyung asked, a hint of concern now creeping into his voice.
"I don't know," Jungkook muttered, more to himself than to Taehyung. He gave his wrist a last glance before deciding to drop the topic. "Yeah, probably nothing."
