As Emma walked alongside Louisa, she noticed Louisa's gaze drifting back toward the garden.
"Walk properly, Milady, or you'll trip," Emma said with a sly smile.
Louisa quickly turned forward, her cheeks flushing. But Emma's words only made her glance back again, hoping to catch another glimpse of Jungkook.
Emma chuckled. "You're so smitten, Milady. Your eyes keep straying to the garden."
Louisa playfully slapped Emma's arm. "Hush, Emma! You're being ridiculous."
Emma laughed, unfazed. "I've seen the way you look at him, Milady. You're lost in thought whenever he's near."
Louisa's face warmed, but she couldn't deny Emma's words.
Emma's teasing continued. "I've never seen you so distracted. Jungkook's certainly made an impression."
Louisa's smile faltered, her thoughts swirling around Jungkook.
Emma's eyes sparkled with mischief. "I wish someone looked at me the way you look at Jungkook, Milady," she said, her voice laced with teasing.
Louisa's cheeks flushed deeper. "Emma, stop it!"
Emma chuckled. "Oh, Milady, your eyes shine like stars when you gaze at him. It's as if the world has come to a standstill."
Louisa playfully rolled her eyes. "You're exaggerating, Emma."
Emma grinned. "I'm not! I've seen the way you steal glances at him, the way your smile falters when he's near. You're besotted, Milady!"
Louisa's laughter echoed through the hallway. "Emma, you're a wicked gossip!"
Emma's eyes twinkled. "Perhaps, but someone needs to tease you about your secret admirations."
Louisa's face warmed, but she couldn't deny the truth in Emma's words.
As they approached the door to the General's study, Emma whispered, "Be careful, Milady. Your heart is written all over your face."
Emma's voice turned serious. "Milady, please control your emotions. Your face reveals your heart's secrets. Anyone can notice it."
Louisa nodded, taking a deep breath.
As Emma curtsied and left, Louisa felt grateful for her loyal companion. Emma was more than just a maid; she was a true friend, a sister.
Memories flooded Louisa's mind. She had known Emma since childhood, when Emma's parents worked under General Alexander. Despite the strict rules forbidding interactions with the lower caste, Louisa's heart had ignored the boundaries.
Her parents had scolded her, warning her about the "impropriety" of befriending an Anthics girl. But Louisa couldn't help herself. She and Emma had grown inseparable.
After Emma's parents passed away, Louisa's family had taken Emma in. Their bond strengthened, and Louisa came to trust Emma with her deepest secrets.
Louisa recalled the countless times Emma had comforted her, the laughter they shared, and the whispers in the dead of night. Emma knew her better than anyone.
Tears pricked at the corners of Louisa's eyes. She cherished Emma's unwavering loyalty and love.
"Emma," Louisa whispered, her voice filled with affection.
As she entered her parents' study, Louisa steeled herself, knowing she had to conceal her true feelings.
But with Emma by her side, Louisa felt a sense of courage, knowing her secrets were safe.
