Mr Zhang woke up in a hospital ward, but his memory was hazy. Why had he been at the conference? Who had organised it? His questions would have wait because a pretty young nurse had just walked in to check his vitals.
"Everything looks fine Mr Zhang. You're lucky that you came in when you did to receive the antidote. It was just in time."
"That's good to hear." Replied Mr Zhang. "And please, call me Huan."
"Okay Huan." Said the nurse smiling. Then she turned serious. "You should know that the police are investigating your poisoning, they might come by to ask some questions."
"Oh, okay." Said Mr Zhang.
Mr Zhang was thirsty, and noticed a tray of food by the side of his bed. He managed to salvage a juice box, and sipped it while waiting for something to happen.
The nurse came back and announced that he had visitors. It was the Hungarian ambassador and his friend the Indian ambassador. Delightful. Mr Zhang was happy to see his friends. They talked for hours and hours about the sweet and sour chicken, and many other things.
As Mr Zhang ate his sweet and sour chicken, he thought about his life so far. He knew he was from China, and that he was an ambassador. He knew a lot about conferences and position papers and that sort of thing. But there were some key details of his life missing.
After talking to the other ambassadors, he discovered that they too were missing key details of their lives. It was truly a curious situation.
He still didn't know who had poisoned him. The police were supposed to investigate the matter. Why had that Interpol agent been watching him? Why were the ambassadors missing key details of their lives? There were many questions that would soon be answered.
