As the competition day drew near, the tension between Kai and Michael became palpable. Their rehearsals were filled with unspoken words and lingering glances. Kai often caught himself staring at Michael, wondering if this was the moment he should reveal his feelings.

One evening, while practicing at Michael’s house, the atmosphere shifted. They were taking a break, sitting on the floor surrounded by dance shoes and water bottles. Michael turned to Kai, his expression serious. “You’ve been acting a bit distant lately. Is everything okay?”

Kai’s heart raced at the concern in Michael’s voice. “Yeah, I’m fine. Just… nervous about the competition,” he replied, forcing a smile.

“Are you sure? You know you can talk to me about anything, right?” Michael’s sincerity pierced through Kai’s defenses.

Kai felt the weight of the moment bearing down on him. “I just… I really want to do well,” he admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. But the truth was, he wanted more than to perform well; he wanted to be honest about his feelings.

As the night wore on, they resumed practicing, but the tension hung thick in the air. The closer they got to the performance, the more Kai felt that he had to say something, but every time he tried to speak, the words caught in his throat.
