Shattered bonds

Blaza sat at the edge of the campfire, the flames casting eerie shadows on his weary face. His mind churned with everything that had happened, the growing distrust, the feeling that something far more dangerous was at play. The night air was heavy with tension, and even the wind seemed to whisper of impending doom.

Socks sat across from him, his brows furrowed in concentration. He was silent, staring into the fire, but Blaza could see the gears turning in his mind. Socks always had a plan, but this time, even he seemed unsure.

“We need to do something,” Joocie muttered, pacing restlessly around the clearing. His usually calm demeanor was shattered, replaced by a sharp anxiety. “Black’s not just after power anymore—he’s going to destroy everything. And we’re sitting here doing nothing.”

“We’re not doing nothing,” Nadwe replied, his voice low, though frustration simmered beneath the surface. “We’re gathering information, figuring out our next move.”

Oof leaned against a tree, his arms crossed. “And how long is that going to take? We don’t have time. The longer we wait, the stronger Black gets.”

Blaza’s thoughts were elsewhere, though. He was staring at the sky, trying to piece together what was bothering him. Tbh’s recent behavior was strange—he was distant, more secretive. The fracture in their friendship ran deeper than ever. Blaza had tried to brush it off, but now, something gnawed at his gut. Tbh wasn’t just hiding something. He was part of something larger, something darker.

“I don’t trust him anymore,” Blaza finally said, breaking his silence.

The others turned to him, the weight of his words settling over them like a cold blanket. Socks raised an eyebrow. “Tbh?”

Blaza nodded, his voice steady despite the turmoil in his chest. “He’s been acting strange. Ever since the fight with Black, he’s been… different. I don’t know if he’s still on our side.”

“That’s a serious accusation,” Muffin said quietly, his eyes narrowing. He was usually the calmest of the group, but even he looked troubled.

Blaza let out a long breath. “I know. But I can’t shake this feeling. Black’s been manipulating all of us, and I think he’s using Tbh.”

Allie, who had been sitting quietly next to Nadwe, finally spoke. “So, what do we do about it? If Tbh really is working for Black, confronting him outright could make things worse. We need to be smart about this.”

Blaza clenched his fists, frustration bubbling up. “I don’t know. But we have to figure it out fast. Black is getting closer to whatever he’s planning, and if Tbh is feeding him information, we’re in serious danger.”

Meme, who had been sitting a little away from the group, finally chimed in. “There’s a way to find out.”

Everyone turned to look at him. Meme’s face was unreadable, but his eyes glinted with a dangerous idea. “We lure Tbh into a situation where he has to choose. If he’s still on our side, he’ll help us. If he’s working for Black, he’ll show his true colors.”

Socks crossed his arms, his sharp mind already considering the possibility. “You’re talking about setting a trap.”

Meme nodded slowly. “Exactly. But we don’t confront him directly. We let him think he’s still fooling us, and then we give him an opportunity to betray us. If he takes it, we’ll know.”

Blaza shook his head, his heart sinking at the thought. “But what if he’s still on our side? What if we’re wrong?”

Muffin placed a hand on Blaza’s shoulder, his expression soft. “We’ll cross that bridge when we get to it. But right now, we need to protect ourselves. Black’s influence is growing, and we can’t afford to be blindsided.”

Joocie stopped pacing and sat down, his hands running through his hair. “Alright, so what’s the plan? How do we set this trap without tipping him off?”

Socks leaned forward, his face illuminated by the flickering flames. “We’ll need to make it believable. Black’s not stupid—if he suspects we’re onto him, he’ll pull Tbh out of play. We have to make sure everything looks normal.”

Nadwe nodded. “We keep doing what we’re doing, planning our next move against Black. But we give Tbh a key piece of false information, something we want Black to act on. If Tbh delivers it to Black, we’ll know where his loyalties lie.”

“And if Black takes the bait?” Oof asked, his voice low and steady.

Socks smiled grimly. “Then we hit him where it hurts. We’ll be one step ahead for once.”

Blaza sat silently, his heart heavy. The thought of betraying Tbh, even after everything, twisted his stomach into knots. But he knew it had to be done. If Tbh had truly sided with Black, then there was no other choice.

Allie stood up, her eyes burning with determination. “Then it’s settled. We set the trap, and we prepare for whatever comes next.”

As the group quietly began to make plans, Blaza’s mind drifted back to Tbh’s face—the friend he once trusted with everything. Now, that trust was shattered, like a glass broken beyond repair.

But he couldn’t dwell on it. There was too much at stake. The world itself was at stake.

He just hoped, deep down, that he was wrong about Tbh.
