As the days passed in the Glade, Aurora began to settle in, her small presence gradually weaving itself into the fabric of the group. The boys—now her protectors and friends—made it their mission to introduce her to the daily rhythms of life in the Maze, and Aurora embraced it all with a mixture of innocence and curiosity.

The morning sun filtered through the trees, casting dappled shadows on the ground as Aurora ventured into the center of the Glade, her heart racing with excitement. Today was the day she would finally meet the rest of the Gladers.

"Come on, Aurora!" Newt called, motioning her over. His voice was gentle, and she felt a warm rush of safety whenever he spoke to her. "Let's see what the others are up to!"

As she made her way toward him, Aurora spotted Minho and Gally at the edge of the courtyard. Minho was showing off some new moves with a stick, and Gally was rolling his eyes, clearly unimpressed. "You look ridiculous," Gally teased, crossing his arms.

Minho grinned, undeterred. "Yeah, but you're just jealous you can't do it!"

Aurora giggled, her small laugh ringing out like a bell. The two boys turned their attention to her, and Minho's grin widened. "Hey there, Aurora! Want to try?"

"Me?" she asked, her green eyes sparkling with curiosity.

"Of course! Just hold it like this." Minho demonstrated, swinging the stick with an exaggerated flourish. Aurora mimicked him, laughing as she nearly lost her balance.

Gally stepped closer, nudging Minho with his shoulder. "Let's not break her in half, alright? We don't need her getting hurt."

As Aurora continued to practice, Newt wandered off to grab something from the supply hut. He returned moments later with a small bundle of leaves. "Aurora! I brought you some stuff to play with!"

"What is it?" she asked, her eyes wide.

"Leaves and some string. I thought you might want to make something pretty with them," he replied with a smile.

Aurora's face lit up. "Like what?"

"Maybe some crowns?" Newt suggested.

"I love flower crowns!" she squealed, bouncing on her toes.

With a gleeful clap, Aurora took the materials from Newt and settled down on the grass. Just then, George wandered over, his brow furrowed in concentration. He had been gathering wildflowers, a colorful assortment in his hands.

"Wow, those are beautiful!" Aurora exclaimed, her eyes lighting up. She carefully arranged the flowers into a small pile. "Can I help you?"

"Sure!" George said, surprised by her enthusiasm. He sat down beside her, handing her some of the flowers. "I was trying to make a crown too. Do you want to make matching ones?"

Aurora nodded eagerly, her fingers deftly weaving the flowers together. "I can show you how!"

As they worked together, George watched her, impressed by how easily she put the flowers together. "You're really good at this!" he said, a smile spreading across his face.

Aurora looked up at him, her cheeks flushed with delight. "Thanks! I love all flowers!"

The thought made her pause, her smile faltering slightly. George noticed but said nothing, just continuing to weave flowers into the crown.

Before long, their crowns were finished. Aurora carefully placed one atop George's head. "You look like a prince!" she declared, laughing.

George grinned, adjusting the crown with mock dignity. "And you, my lady, look like the queen of the Glade!"

Just then, Trevor approached, his expression sour. "What are you doing?" he snapped, glaring at the two of them. "That's stupid. You really think making flower crowns is what we need right now? You're wasting your time."

Aurora's smile faded, confusion washing over her face. "But it's fun..."

"Fun doesn't keep us alive," Trevor retorted sharply. "You should be more worried about surviving, not playing with flowers. You don't belong here."

George stood up, anger flaring in his chest. "What's your problem, Trevor? She's just a kid!"

"Exactly," Trevor scoffed, his tone dismissive. "She shouldn't be here. It's dangerous, and you guys are just treating her like she's one of us. She isn't."

"You don't have to be mean," Aurora said softly, her voice barely above a whisper. "I just wanted to make something pretty."

Trevor rolled his eyes. "Pretty isn't going to help when you get hurt out there."

George stepped forward, his fists clenched. "You need to back off, Trevor. Aurora isn't just some burden. She's a part of this now, and you need to treat her like it."

"Why should I?" Trevor shot back, his voice raising. "She's a liability. We have enough to deal with without worrying about a little girl."

The other Gladers began to gather, sensing the tension rising. Alby stepped forward, his expression stern. "That's enough, Trevor. We all agreed to protect Aurora, and your attitude isn't helping anyone."

"Yeah," Gally added, his tone low but firm. "She's part of our group now. Get used to it."

Trevor scoffed but fell silent, crossing his arms defiantly. Aurora looked between them, feeling the weight of their words but still vulnerable in the face of Trevor's harshness. She glanced at George, who smiled back reassuringly, his presence comforting.

As the confrontation faded, Aurora returned to making flower crowns with George. Despite Trevor's negativity, her heart felt lighter in the company of those who cared for her. She couldn't help but feel a sense of belonging among the Gladers, especially with George by her side.

They spent the rest of the afternoon crafting crowns and sharing stories, the laughter of the other boys providing a warm backdrop. In that moment, Aurora felt truly safe, the worries of the outside world slipping away. She was part of something special—an unexpected family in a place where danger lurked at every corner.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange and purple, Aurora realized that despite the challenges ahead, she had friends who would stand by her side. And as long as she had them, she could face whatever WCKD had planned.
