Chapter 1: The Puzzle of the Perfect Smile

In the ordinarily frenetic bustle of Cebu, an air-conditioned, modern facility stood "Ivrie Dental Clinic," a befitting embodiment of a dental specialist's spirit of cooperation. Inside that dynamism-filled place, Dr. Eli Pagay, the orthodontist, reviewed her schedule for that day. She looked forward, especially to her patient's appointment, twelve-year-old Thilly Pada, who suffers from a lousy overbite compounded by her thumb-sucking habit.

Thilly nervously waited in the waiting room, twirling her hair and sometimes looking at all the colorful posters plastered on all the walls. Then, just as bright and beautiful with gleaming smirks, Dr. Pagay walked into the room, warm with a smile and an angel's kindness. "Hello, Thilly! I am Dr. Eli. Dr. Sandoval, a gentle treatment practitioner specializing in preventive care, greeted Thilly with a friendly smile. "Hello, Thilly! Let's take a look at those gums!" After closer inspection, she found that the gums were inflamed and could prevent orthodontics.

"After your gums heal, Thilly, we will put braces to try to fix that overbite," she informed her.

For the following weeks, Thilly visited the clinic for periodontal treatment.
