Later that night (8pm)

I finish writing and put my pen back down, nervously tapping a finger against my knee.

I don't like it. It's shit.

I sigh.

Picking up my notebook, I go downstairs, hoping to get atleast a bit of a positive reaction. I really hope I'm just being hard on myself.

"Mum? Dad?" I enter nervously.

"Yeah?" Mum looks up.

"What's up bud?" Dad smiles.

"Um... you know I said I wanted to be an author...?"

"Yeah?" They reply softly.

"Um... I wrote something... it's only a descriptive paragraph I wrote from a picture but I'm going to write something proper if it's good... I think it's shit."

"Bring it here, we'll be the judge of that." Dad gestures me over.

"I'm sure it's great." Mum smiles.

I walk over, handing it to them.

"Um... have you read Macbeth?"

"Yes, we have. Is it from that?" Dad asks.

"Yeah, from a picture of Macbeth..."

They nod, and then start to read it.

White-hot terror tore through my veins as I stared at the Newspaper's image. The new King. In his eyes, I could see a cold, piercing glare, sharper than a million pieces of glass. Icy. Venomous. Dark. Hell's throne sat murderous with fresh power deeper than the slices of Satan's sword, his body stiff and rigid with omnipotent malice and viscous violence seizing his frozen muscles. The new King. Blood spattered ignorance seeped from Lucifer's crown to his empty soul, inundated with brutal, sleep-slashing greed, remorse sealed shut on his lips. The new King.

They look back up at me, their eyes wide.

"Oh my god, Charlie, are you crazy? That's amazing!" Mum cries.

"Yeah, god, jesus kid!" Dad grins, half laughing.

"I-... I... really...? You like it...?" I blink.

"I love it!"

"I... I..." I trail off, blinking again for a second, before grinning bashfully. "Ah... thank you..."

"You're welcome." They grin.

Well... that's that then. I thought it was shit, but... I guess not. And maybe... I can be an author after all. And prove everyone who said I couldn't wrong. And you know what? I will do that.

I will.
