Six months later

I nervously follow behind Mum and Dad, who I now know are called Quinn and Ash, as they show me inside my new home.

I stop behind them, standing awkwardly by the front door.

"Um... where should I put my stuff...?" I ask quietly.

Mum turns round, smiling softly at me.

"We'll show you to your bedroom, and you can put them in there. However I suspect you would like some new stuff, hm? Those are quite old now."

I look down and scan over my slightly worn looking clothes.

"Um... y-you really don't have to..." I say quietly, smiling nervously.

"It's alright champ! It doesn't bother us at all to get you new stuff. We'd actually love to! Now you're our son, prepare to be treated like a Prince." Dad smiles cheerily.

Mum smiles gently, and I can't help but smile too at that.

I've only known him six months, and he's only legally been my Dad for a couple of days, but he's already a great father. And he keeps giving me nicknames like "Kid", "Kiddo", "Bud", "Buddy", "Son", and "Champ", haha.

"Hm... okay. Thanks..." I smile quietly.

"Nah, no worries." He smiles a relaxed, warm smile.

"No problem." Mum’s eyes light up. "Right! Shall we show you that room of yours?"

I smile slightly, nodding.

"Come." She grins slightly, turning round and heading upstairs.

I follow them both, curious.

I wonder what it'll look like?

They lead me into a big room with a big, red, wooden sign on the door saying "Charlie's room" a king sized bed in the middle, a bedside table next to it with a lamp, and a big TV attached to the wall opposite my bed, with a mini table underneath with two remote controls placed neatly on.

"Here we are!"

Tears threaten to make an appearance as I take it all in.

"O-Oh my god... shit, I love it! Thank you so much!" I turn round and hug the first person I see, Mum, burying my head in her shoulder and gesturing for Dad to come join.

He does, chuckling softly. "I'm glad. You're welcome."

"Aw, sweetie... are you crying? We've not even decorated it yet, baby..." Mum smiles softly, chuckling lightly, hugging me back.

"I-I know but i-it's still way better than anything I've ever had... a-and it's so big!" I sniffle.

I feel them smile again.

"Well, I'm glad you like it so much, sweetie."

"I really love it..."

"I'm glad." They whisper.

And it's true.

I couldn't possibly explain how grateful I am.

This is the best my life has ever been.

And you know what? I think I'm starting to believe them. With parents like this, maybe I really will get better.
