Y/n rolled out of her bed the next morning, everyone had already left. She shrugged and changed into her robes, quickly washing her face and brushing her hair before making her way to breakfast.

"There you are," Hermione said as she cut up her toast, "I didn't want to wake you up, you seemed awfully peaceful,"

Y/n chuckled, "Well I made it on time for a brisk breakfast, have our schedules arrived?"

"Yes," Hermione nodded, passing Y/n her slip of paper.

"Alright," Y/n read, "Thursday, that's today, we have a double period of Transfiguration, followed by double Potions and Astronomy in the evening,"

"That's a good day," Hermione nodded.

Y/n continued, "Tomorrow, double defence against the dark arts, followed by double arithmancy and finally herbology, it seems we're with Slytherin for all those classes, isn't that a bit, counterproductive?"

"With all the bickering?" Hermione asked, "I suppose so, but it shouldn't hurt to try and improve house relations, though a bit of competition never hurt anyone,"

Y/n chuckled, still reading the timetable, "Ooooh Wednesday we have broom lessons from Madam Hooch, that'll be fun,"

Hermione did not think so.

"Hey Y/n," She heard a sniggering behind her, "What are you doing with that muggle,"

She turned to see Malfoy and his goons, thinking they were funny.

"Yeah, how about you join your fellow purebloods?" Crabbe smirked.

"She's more of a wizard than any of you are," Y/n scowled, seeing Hermione was uncomfortable, "And it's Y/ln to you, don't think we're friends because I haven't ruined your life,"

A murmur of ooos surrounded them.

"Thank you Y/n," Hermione said quietly and nervously, "No one's ever really stood up for me like that before, I appreciate it,"

Y/n shrugged, "I guess you've never had a real friend then, and don't listen to them, I'd rather hang out with you than anyone else right now,"

Hermione smiled at that, it was true, she'd never had a real friend. Too kooky for the muggles but too different for the wizards. She'd never felt like she'd belonged anywhere, she hoped that with time, she'd be accepted by everyone the way Y/n did, but she knew that was ridiculous.

"Oh look at the time!" Hermione sprang up, "We need to make it to Transfiguration in five minutes else McGonagall would have our guts for garters, here's the map!"

The girls found the lesson in time, the same couldn't be said for the boys.

The class was quietly taking notes from textbooks when Harry and Ron burst in.

Hermione rolled her eyes and Y/n chuckled to herself.

"Phew," Ron said, only seeing a silver-british shorthair cat on the table, "Could you imagine the look on old McGonagall's face if we were late?"

Ron gulped as the cat sprang into professor McGonagall, the lady who'd sorted them yesterday.

"Perhaps I might transfigure you or Mr Potter into a pocket watch so that at least one of you would make it on time," McGonagall said sternly.

"Sorry Professor," Ron apologised, "We got lost,"

"Then I suggest you use a map, you don't need one to find your seats,"

Y/n laughed a bit to herself and Hermione sniggered with her.

Potions was also a bit challenging.

Snape was telling them about what the subject should consist of etc and how particular he was about only keeping students who proved worthy, "Unless some deem themselves to be above listening,"
