Y/n changed the flowers on Hermione's bedside table.
"Thought the Hydrangeas might cheer the place up a bit,"
"They do," Harry agreed, "Hermione where are you when we need you?"
He reached for her hand, he felt something inside, a crinkle.
"What in the-,"
It was paper.
It had writing on it.
It was the page from a book.
"Y/n why did Hermione go to the library the other night?" Harry asked.
Y/n raised an eyebrow, "To get a potions book, she told me my work was wrong,"
"Did she tell you what was wrong?" Harry asked.
Y/n shook her head, "I thought my work was right!"
She leaned over Harry's shoulder, "I was right! Oh Hermione you cheeky bugger I should have been there too!"
They left abruptly and Harry read the book page to them.
"Of the many fearsome beasts that roam our land, none is more deadly than the basilisk. Capable of living for hundreds of years, instant death awaits any who meets the giant serpent's eye,"
"That's it!" Y/n gasped, "Did none of you wonder why everyone was near something reflective?"
"And it says here spiders flee before it," Harry read on, "The monster in the Chamber of Secrets is a basilisk, that's why I hear it speak, it's a snake,"
"Wait Y/n what did you just say about reflections?" Ron asked.
"That that's why no one was paralysed," She replied.
They looked at her in confusion.
"Let's look through all the victims," Y/n explained as they walked, "The first one,"
"Mrs Norris," Harry answered.
"Exactly," Y/n nodded, "She was by a water puddle, she saw the basilisk in the water,"
"Then there was Colin Creevy," Ron added.
"Precisely," Y/n said, "He had his camera, he saw it through the camera and the burnt film, it protected him,"
"And Justin saw it through Nearly Headless Nick who got the full blast of it but couldn't die again because he's a ghost," Harry realised.
"And Hermione had her mirror the smart girl," Y/n shook her head.
"So no one actually looked it in the eye, not directly at least," Harry concluded.
"Well if we fight this thing, I'm searching my dorm for mirrors, we'd best have one each if we don't want to die," Y/n sighed.
"Spiders flee before it," Harry went over the knowledge, "It all fits!"
"But how's it been getting around?" Ron asked, "A dirty, great, snake, someone else must have seen it!"
"Hermione has an answer for everything it seems," Y/n tapped her finger on the bottom of the page where a single word, pipes was written.
"And the pipes go to the bathroom, Moaning Myrtle, we ought to speak to her now," Harry said.
They suddenly heard a loud voice, McGonagall.
"All students to their house dormitories at once, all teachers to the second floor immediately,"
As the idiots they were, they obviously ran to the second floor.
"As you can see, another message has been left," McGonagall said to the teachers as the three hid behind a wall, "Our worst fear has come true, a student has been taken by the monster, into the chamber itself. Students must be sent home, I'm afraid this is the end of Hogwarts,"
