Two Weeks Later
Thursday Evening
I sigh as I run a hand over the top of my head and look at Skylar sitting next to me.
"Can't believe you dyed your hair," Skylar said while shaking her head. I just narrow my eyes at her and she shifts in her seat. We are at my house because I finally reached out after basically a month of no contact with her.
"I've missed you Kai....how have you been?," Skylar asked.
"I've been cool...you? Still talking to that evil woman?," I asked getting straight to the point.
"Kai...." Skylar said.
"I just don't understand how you can talk to her Skylar. You know what she did. You were there," I said.
"I know Kai trust me I know. The sight....of dad that way keeps me up at night believe me. But I already lost dad how can I lose my mother too? I can't mourn two parents at the same time I am not that strong," Skylar said sadly. I just shake my head and sigh deeply.
"I can't ever look at her the same way Skylar. Do you understand that?," I said.
"Yes....of course I understand. I just...I wish you could just hear her out."
"There is nothing to hear from her. It's not like her and dad got into an argument or any shit like that. She is the only one wrong in that situation," I said.
"Ok...I get it. I do. You know I hated her when she killed dad. But....I just don't want to hate her anymore Kai," Skylar said while looking at me. I just sigh as I shake my head.
"....I don't know what to say to that," I said honestly. Skylar sighs as she runs a hand through her hair.
"If I had to choose between you and mom at my wedding....I would choose you Kai. You're my brother and you have been so protective and supportive of me my entire life. You're my best friend and I can't imagine my wedding without you. Neither can Jorden," Skylar said.
"I hear you," I said softly.
"How can we resolve this Kai? I've hated not talking to you," Skylar said.
"I don't know Skylar. I mean us meeting right now is a start. But I do not like that you are talking to her. I get why you didn't tell me though," I said.
"Yeah....well I hope we can work through this Kai. I won't have mom at the wedding I promise. I want you there," Skylar said.
"I will be there," I said. Skylar smiles and we share an embrace. I'm glad we got that out of the way. I may feel differently about my mother one day, but that day is not today.
"So......Jorden told me he got your blessing in order to propose," Skylar said while smiling softly.
"Yeah....guess I was next in line," I said.
"Yeah.....I really am so sad that dad isn't here to walk me down the aisle," I said.
"I know....he would have spoiled the hell out of you for this wedding. Have you thought about who you want to walk you down instead?"
"....I think I'm just going to walk by down by myself. It wouldn't feel right with anyone else anyway."
"You sure?," I asked.
"Yeah that's what I want," Skylar said. I nod my head and I gently rub her shoulder.
"....Have you and Jorden started planning anything?," I asked.
