24. The Secret Family

It was Friday - the day of my departure. My portmanteau was ready as my documents and a plane ticket. There was one thing lacking - seeing Henry before I go.

So instead of heading directly to the airport, I stopped over to Valente for a while.

As I got inside the elevator, my new manager named Hans stepped inside too.

"Forgot something, Campbell?" He asked.

"Nothing. Just needed to see someone." I sighed as I pressed the elevator button to Henry's floor.

"Boyfriend?"

"Yeah."

"A Valente's guest?"

"Yeah," I answered palely.

"You know dating a guest is against the policy."

I raised my brow. "But I don't work here anymore."

I didn't like him the first time I met him. He was a pain in the ass. His orders were hell impossible and often talked degradingly and insulting. Glad I was under by him for only days until yesterday or else my blond hair would turn white if I continued dealing with his shits.

"Oh, that's right. Jeez, I forgot," he chuckled.

Relief embraced me as he stopped asking. Until the elevator halted on the tenth floor.

"I'm heading now. See you next time, Campbell." He tapped my shoulder, but before he went out he said, "You know leaving your man behind's really a bad idea. Men fail long-distance relationships," He winked.

Before I made sense to that shitty concept, the door was already closed. Thanks for the inspiring thought. I found myself cursing his name in my head.

This day was really becoming a bad day. Just one more scene and I will explode out of the place. I badly needed to see Henry brighten up my mood.

Few more minutes and I was entering his unit. I had a spare key so I could visit him anytime, with or without his awareness.

"Henry?" I called, scanning the living room.

"Are you here?" I opened the bathroom. Still no figure of him.

"Where are you?" I walked to the bedroom and failed to see him. But his goddamn phone was there, lying silently on the nightstand. So that's why Henry's not picking up my calls. He left it.

This was exhausting. I needed to go before 12 noon or else I would be late. But Henry promised to accompany me to the airport and now he was nowhere to be found. We were just speaking through the phone last night and exchanging 'I love you's 'till we both fell into sleep. Where the hell was he right now?
