Hi everyone! Iʼm Akosua Abrokwah; (@the_atticwriter ), and Iʼm a writer from Ghana🇬🇭

I started writing when I was around eight years old. I used to turn my math notebook into a journal filled with stories. And English... to this day continues to be my favorite subject.

I read a werewolf romance book in 2012; 'Arranged' by Katy Wong and that was my turning point. The author was also young then and I asked myself if someone only 3 years older than I was has dared to put her work out there, what was stopping me from doing the same?

So on September 9th, 2016, I created my first official Wattpad account and I've been on the app for 8 whole years.

My first years on Wattpad were one of my hardest. I'd had my first book, Lean on Me (now titled Mark of an Alphaʼs Mate) inspired by Katy Wongʼs book, in my drafts for a while. I was terrified of the response I was going to get because it was going to be my first time attempting to share my work. So I chose to wait the night before going off to boarding school. I published 10 full chapters and disappeared. We came home for Christmas break and the response wasnʼt as heartbreaking as I was expecting. So I told myself okay, letʼs do this.

Iʼd publish a lot of chapters and then run off to school. The reads came. The votes? Not so much. But it was good. I was a kid who had just started to share her work and I wasn't going to be that negative. But then the harassment began and I had to take down a couple of my other books. It was a horrible time and Wattpad didnʼt exactly help after I sent in a mail. So I took quite the break to just find myself again and work on not letting negative comments affect what Iʼve come to love doing most in my life. Writing started as an activity to pass time but now itʼs all I want to do and I doubt Iʼd ever get tired of it.

Currently, I have 9 books published and about 36 in my drafts. I have absolutely no self-control when it comes to starting new books even though I'm still working on several others. Out of my 9 published books, I have 6 fully completed ones, 2 currently being updated, and 1 on hold. And one book that I feel stands out the most would be Eventually Yours.

Now it took me 4 whole years to finish this book. Why? The haters were at it again. And I almost took it down. But then I didnʼt. I put it on hold from Friday, October 2nd, 2020 till Thursday, June 1st, 2023. And on Friday, December 15th, 2023, I marked Eventually Yours as complete with 105 parts.

Itʼs a second-chance romance novel with an easygoing female lead, a jerk of an ex-husband, and the most exasperating side characters you will ever find in a book. It has a satisfying happily ever after ending but it's got so many twists and so much drama, trust me on that one. It wasnʼt a novel I was expecting to stand out as much as it has now if Iʼm being honest. I had no exact clear plan for it. I began it free-writing. Just trusting the plot to lead me. But after the 3-year break, I decided to rewrite the chapters I already had published and get it going.

Now fair warning, if you donʼt like forebearing female leads, 'Eventually Yours' isnʼt the book for you. But if youʼre looking for characters that will tick your every last nerve, then it is exactly the book for you. (If you donʼt believe me, check the comment sections... my favorite place to be) 🤭

Have the hate comments stopped? God no 😂
But Iʼve learned to handle it so much better now. And there is always going to be that portion of the comments section filled with people who genuinely love your work.

One piece of advice Iʼd like to give would be that as a writer... new or seasoned; a pro or just finding your way around things... please, take your time. It is not a race. Trust me. And this is coming from someone who has been left behind on a lot of things. Just take your time. Itʼs your novel. Youʼre in charge of you. Youʼre the boss... unless youʼre working for a publishing company and your editor has you on a hot deadline 😂 then no.

But you get what I mean. When the inspiration isnʼt flowing, take some time off. However long you need to get your groove back. Writerʼs block sucks. But experiencing a burnout sucks even worse. And when you finish that 20-part novel, or the 55-part one youʼve put everything into, or even the 150-part ones I donʼt mind writing, youʼll know that it was all you. You did it on your terms, in your own time.

Then you can go ahead and check it as 'Completed' because there is no greater rewarding feeling than having a completed book.

Thank you YWW for having me!
