Chapter 3: Flower Wilting in Sunlight

Xie Lian's eyes fluttered open, greeted by Shi Qingxuan's concerned gaze.

"Ah, you're awake, Xie Lian. Do you want something to eat?" Shi Qingxuan asked, helping Xie Lian sit up.

Xie Lian declined, shaking his head. "I'll collect some scraps first, clear my mind, and then eat."

Before leaving, Shi Qingxuan's fan snapped shut, capturing Xie Lian's attention.

"Xie Lian, I'm worried. You've been drinking nonstop, losing yourself. Crimson Rain Sought Flower wouldn't be pleased either," Shi Qingxuan said, walking closer to hold Xie Lian's hand.

"Please take care of yourself, for Hua Cheng's sake, if not your own. You're not just hurting yourself, but also those who care for you."

Xie Lian had heard these words before, from Fei Xing, Mu Qing, and others. Their concern, though genuine, felt suffocating.

"I appreciate your concern, Shi Qingxuan, but I need time," Xie Lian said, his voice barely above a whisper.

Shi Qingxuan's expression softened. "I understand, but promise me you'll take care of yourself."

Xie Lian nodded, though his heart remained heavy.

"Thank you, Shi Qingxuan, and He Xuan. I must go."

Xie Lian quickly stepped out, his emotions overwhelming. Tears streamed down his face as he walked.

"Hua Cheng, I miss you so much. Please appear before me, just once. I long to hear your voice"

The scorching sun beat down on him, but Xie Lian felt only numbness.

A butterfly landed on his face, sipping his tears. Xie Lian's lips curled into a faint smile.

"Thank you," he whispered, standing up.

He resumed his routine, collecting trash despite the heat. The familiarity brought a fleeting sense of calm.

As he worked, memories flooded his mind: Hua Cheng's laughter, their battles, and quiet moments shared.

After gathering enough scraps, Xie Lian bought a steam bun. As he took a bite, the butterfly returned, landing on the bun.

"Sharing a meal, just like old times," Xie Lian chuckled, remembering Hua Cheng's victory and the cold steamed bun they shared.

But the nostalgia was short-lived, as grief struck again.

"Hua Cheng, my crimson flower. I yearn to see you again, to be with you. This eternal life means nothing without you. Every day feels like an eternity."

Xie Lian's eyes welled up, his voice cracking.

"I'll find a way to you, Hua Cheng. I must."

The butterfly fluttered away, leaving Xie Lian with only his thoughts.
