Chapter 10 | "Is this how it ends?"

Thursday, 5/02/85

Luna stirred in bed, the early morning light creeping through the blinds. The room was blank, the quiet hum of the city just beginning to wake outside. She blinked her eyes open, her body nestled against Richard's as he lay next to her sound asleep. His arm was draped loosely over her waist, and chest rising and falling in a steady rhythm.

She glanced at the clock on the bedside table, she had only a few minutes before she needed to get ready for school. A pang of reluctance washed over her; she didn't want to leave the warmth of his embrace.

With a sigh, she turns to look at his face and can't bring herself to leave the bed. she took a moment to admire Richard's features as he slept. His sharp jawline, the slight stubble grazing his face, and the way his dark hair fell across his forehead. She couldn't help herself. Gently, she traced her fingers along his jaw, following the lines that made him so distinct, so undeniably him.

Her soft touch must have stirred something in his sleep, because before she could pull her hand away, his arm tightened around her waist, pulling her closer to him. She let out a quiet gasp as his grip on her grew firm, pressing her body against his in a way that made her heart race. He was still asleep, his breathing steady, but it was as if, even in his unconscious state, he didn't want to let her go.

For a moment, she stayed there, tucked into his side, feeling the warmth of his skin and the steady beat of his heart against her back. It was hard to resist staying like this, but she knew she had to get ready for school.

Luna shifted slightly in Richard's grip, trying to free herself without waking him. But as she moved, he stirred, his voice low and groggy.

"Where do you think you're going?" he mumbled, his eyes still closed, but his hold on her tightening just a little.

"I've got school," Luna whispered back, glancing at the clock. She had already slept in longer than she should have. "I'm going to be late."

Richard let out a lazy chuckle, pulling her even closer. "Stay. You can skip one day. I'm not letting you go that easily."

Luna smiled softly, resting her head back on his chest for a moment. "You know I can't. Danny will get suspicious if I'm not there."

"Danny can mind his own business," Richard muttered, finally opening his eyes to meet hers. His voice was teasing, but there was a flicker of seriousness behind it. "Just stay with me a little longer."

Luna sighed, torn between her responsibilities and the warmth of Richard's embrace. "I really have to go," she whispered, though part of her didn't want to leave at all.

"Five more minutes," he bargained, his fingers tracing soft circles on her back. "Just five."

Luna glanced at the clock again and bit her lip. She couldn't help but feel a sense of guilt for wanting to stay. "Fine," she finally whispered, resting back against him. "But only five."

Richard's eyes fluttered open just as Luna's fingers trace his jawline one again. He catches her hand before she could pull away, a lazy smirk tugging at the corner of his lips.

"Caught you," he murmured, his voice still thick with sleep. He at her through half lidded eyes, amusement dancing in his gaze. "Couldn't resist, huh?"

Luna smiled, her cheeks flushing slightly. "Just admiring," she replied softly, trying to pull her hand back, but his grip tightened playfully.
