Strange. It's the only word that can describe everything that just happened here. What's even stranger is that it spoke to me. A vampire actually spoke to me. The only time any of them actually speaks to us is to curse us. And why would it hesitate to make what should have been an easy kill? I start to feel lightheaded as thoughts continue scrambling in my brain.

"Are you two alright?" I ask worriedly scurrying to my brothers as they slowly get to their feet. "Are you hurt? Let me see." I say scanning over them.

My stomach twists, guilt building as I take mental notes of every bruise. Neil, aside from a few scratches and a nasty bruise on his left arm he landed on, looks fine. Aron on the other hand took the worst of the monster's blows. Bruised face, a busted lip, and an awful shoulder wound that left blood trailing down his arm. The only relief I have is that neither of them was bitten.

"Lunie I'm fine. Stop fussing." He mutters clutching his wounded arm. "You two were lucky I was here. A hero like me can't be everywhere at once."

"No jokes Aron. You two were nearly turned into blood bags and so was I. Thank goodness the Blood Pack got here in time."

"So that was them?"

"Yeah, I could tell from the red mark on their fur. They were probably on nightly patrol when they heard us."

The Blood Pack is the biggest known in the Timberwoods. They're are guardians and the fiercest warriors I've ever seen. They maintain order by keeping our enemies, mostly vampires, out. We all grew up watching them. Night after night we'd scramble to see them race through the woods either hunting or on patrols. It was amazing. We all dreamed that we could be half the brave warriors that they are.

Dad isn't too fond of them though. Strange since he was one of them. He says life has other plans for us and everything will make sense when we're older. But that still hasn't stopped me from having my secret dream of joining them one day.

"Aww what? I wanted to see the Blood Pack. They're so cool. It's your fault." Neil says punching Aron in the arm. "If I wasn't busy getting your face outta the dirt I would have seen them."

"Cut it out. You can see them later."

"Well, look who managed to survive." Vivian announces stepping through the trees with two, tall angry wolves at her sides.

"That is if we are ever let out of the house again." I mumble.

"Well you three are moving and breathing so I guess that you're alright."

“We’re in one piece Vivi.” I say hugging her tightly. I try to ignore the low disapproving growls of my parents. The soft red coat of my mother and the jet-black coat of my father stands on end as they glare at me. I try not to look into their eyes, especially my mother’s frustrated hazel ones.

"What the heck took you so long Viv?" Aron asks.

"I'm sorry, I was looking for our parents while you were rushing into danger as usual." Vivi answers smugly.

"Well Ms. Know it All, you're so smart. You should have been able to find them faster."

"If you had listened to me and gone home when I said none of this would have happened."

Mom is the first to shift and take a short but no less intimidating form. In a flash her fur is replaced by long strands of red hair, tan skin and freckles, her claws swapped out for sharp painted nails, but the frown on her face remains the same.

"That's enough." She tells them. "What were you all thinking? Moon above." Mom says noticing Aron's arm. "After we warned you so many times. What on earth possessed you to do such a foolish, dangerous thing?"
