Susie

Arken leant in, his lips meeting hers, their breath mingling as his hand wove into her hair.

They were standing in a sunlit glade with only a pleasant breeze to stir the air, but Susie felt like she was caught up in a celestial storm.

Kissing Arken for the second time was even more thrilling than the first. It was more tender and bittersweet, his mouth seeking, and each time she pressed her lips against his, she felt like she was in a freefall with the wind whipping around her with nothing to hold onto but Arken.

They would never hit the ground, she realised. There was no ground below them as they hurtled down through space. They were simply falling, and it was impossible to control the speed or direction.

But they could choose to hold onto each other, and that's what they did.

Her heart was not whole. It was still fractured, except it now contained not only the pain of all she had suffered, but his as well.

Caring about Arken hurt, but somehow that made her own pain easier to bear, because at least they didn't have to bear it alone.

Susie clung to Arken fervently, and the kiss deepened, transforming into something more than just a kiss as their souls clashed and merged in a dazzling shower of light.

Her insides were in a wonderful state of turmoil, her fears and doubts reduced to insignificant specks within a violent whirlwind of hope.

Arken's hands intertwined with hers, and Susie moaned against his mouth at the contact. The feel of his palms, his strong fingers, and his strong but gentle hold was as sensual as kissing him was. He didn't just hold her hand. He squeezed it tenderly, then relaxed, then squeezed again, applying pressure to their interlaced fingers and making hot bolts of lightning shoot through her as their palms brushed.

Having him stroke her hand like this made her feel wanton.

It was hotter than sex and rivalled the intensity of his kisses, causing shivery sensations to travel across her skin.

But she wasn't prepared for what he did next—with their fingers still interlaced, he bent his left wrist, arching his hand away to slip in his thumb. Her core throbbed when his fingernail grazed her sensitive palm, and when he repeated the motion, she nearly died.

Her knees buckled as heat surged through her and made her clit throb, and she barely registered the worry in Arken's voice as he caught her. "Are you all right?"

No. She wasn't all right. She hadn't been all right in a long time. She was aroused, and breathless, and absolutely terrified.

"Susie?"

She definitely wasn't all right. But as long as Arken kept a hold of her, she felt like she could be.

She was walking backwards without even realising it, pulling Arken along until she hit a tree trunk, the coarse bark scraping her through her robe.

"Careful," he said at the same time that her back twinged with pain.

"Careful," she agreed. But please don't make me stop. She could ignore a little pain for these moments with Arken.

Shaking with anticipation, she grabbed his shoulders and tried to drag him down to kiss her.

Arken held back. "Wait. You look scared. What's wrong?"

"Everything," she whispered. That was the truth. "Everything...except this."

Arken bowed his head and sighed. "I know."
