Susie

Walking through the school that day was a strange experience for Susie, and not just because it was her first day back. The plug inside her shifted with each step, and she was starting to regret her earlier bravado in the bathroom. It had been worth it to see Arken's stunned face when she'd taken initiative, and the way he'd been rendered helpless as she strutted out.

Or so she'd thought. The cool sensation of the plug, as well as the squishing pressure it applied to her insides, was quickly reducing her to a hot, wet mess. If anyone smelt it on her, they didn't comment on it.

She was surprised to learn that Arken had suspended Zott's class until further notice. The news had sent shockwaves through the school, but Arken hadn't mentioned it to her at all. He seemed unwilling to bring up anything that might paint him in a positive light, and never fished for compliments or reassurance, not even when they were flirting. She was careful to be kind to him for that reason. How strange, to have that sort of power over a vampire.

She wondered how Zott had reacted to his classes being cancelled. She'd learnt about it from one of the second-years during Physical Education. They were playing badminton, which was a favourite of vampires. Like most of the other wolves, her partner hated it, but Susie had a smile on her face as she hit the shuttlecock with a satisfying swat and sent it soaring over the net. It felt good to be outside feeling the autumn sunlight warm her back, and it was a sport she could actually play well. Healer Wallarick—she'd finally memorised the dwarf's name—had advised against extraneous exercise and sports with physical contact.

He'd advised against other things, too, but oh well.

It had been good to see her pack members throughout the day, and she'd shared lunch with them all. There were more than a few unfamiliar faces—new members who had come over from disbanded packs. Susie and Harry had an 'anyone's welcome' approach to allowing new members into their pack, but some of them clearly had no interest in reading.

"It'll grow on them," Harry said as they walked to class, waving dismissively.

"I'm not quite sure about the bald one. What was his name again?"

"Dunno, I forget. Starts with 'B'. He could grow his hair out, though."

"No, not his hair." She gave Harry a light shove. "I'm pretty sure he doesn't know how to read."

"Meh. He'll learn."

"He didn't seem like he wanted to learn. He used to play football with his old pack."

Harry shrugged. "Maybe we'll get him into sports fiction."

"That's not a thing."

"No, but it should be," Harry grinned. "Football, hockey, basketball—"

Susie rolled her eyes, feeling more and more like Sarah with each passing second.

Harry dug his elbow into her ribs. "Maybe a badminton romance? An unwitting heroine who needs the swoonworthy male love interest—who, incidentally, looks an awful lot like Arken—to teach her how to handle a shuttlecock."

"Enough," she hissed, but she couldn't stop herself from smiling.

"Still reckon you could ask for some tips and pointers from Arken. Just the tip, you know."

"Harry..."

"Sorry, sorry, I'm talking too much shit, I know. but you've been hogging Sarah all these weeks, and the jokes have just pent up inside me."
