CHAPTER TWENTY NINE

Zane's POV

In the last three weeks i've battled with the excruciating pain of this illness, i counted the remaining days i have left and everyday was bearable because of davina and her son. I was lucky to have them in my life, even though i couldn't give in to what she wanted, i didn't want her to go through so much torture when it was time to go. I wanted to tell kayden about my condition but i also didn't want to ruin the perfect life he was about to begin with his lady doctor, he finally took responsibility for his actions with Naila's parents and succeeded in winning them over.

Jenny barged into my office, interrupting my train of thoughts;
"There's a problem sir."

"What?"

"Agent sally has been trying to reach you."

I checked my cellphone and saw the countless missed calls, i could swore i didn't hear the phone ring even once. I dialed her back but couldn't get a response;
"What's the urgency?"

"Miss colton's son has been kidnapped sir."

"What?!" I yelled and stood up abruptly, but i was met by a striking headache that affected my vision, i held my head as i staggered.

I heard jenny rush towards me, "Are you alright sir? Do you need the doctor?" She tried to steady me.

"I'm fine. Why didn't you say it earlier?"

"Because i know you would rush out to go play hero, you're not fit for......"

"How dare you tell me what to do?! Know your place jenny."

"Agent sally and her team can handle this...sir."

I ignored her and stormed out of the office, i kept calling sally until she picked up, she was breathing hard like she ran a marathon.
"Mr. Hudson."

"How did it happen?"

"Jackson, he accosted..lilian after she picked adrian from school."

"This must be maxwell's doing, does davina know?" I said, getting into my car and heading straight for davina.

"No sir."

"Good, she's currently at sawyer empire, she might go crazy and put herself in danger by confronting maxwell."

"There's a chance he already knows sir."

"Do we have enough evidence to take him down?"

"The current recordings and documents davina provided are very useful, but to nail him permanently, martha needs to get prove of edward sawyer and your parent's murder too."

"Damn it! Find the boy sally." I said and hung up as i accelerated, my anxiousness was eating me up, i got sweaty palms from fear. "Please be safe davina." I mumbled.

Immediately i pulled up at sawyer's empire, i rushed in, ignoring the security officers coming after me, i took the elevator straight to the CEO's floor while i called davina. She wasn't picking up and that made me worried even more, but i got relieved when i bumped into her as soon as i got out of the elevator. She wasn't alone though.
"Zane? What are you doing here?" She asked in a confused tone.

"Going somewhere?" I asked

"Uh...yeah, mr. sawyer was just taking me to inspect a new project." She replied

"Mr. Caden Zane Hudson, what a pleasure to see you here. Miss vina, you never mentioned you're acquainted with the CEO of our biggest competitors."

"MY WOMAN doesn't need to tell her boss about her private life. And according to statistics, Sawyer Empire ranks third in the world of business in this parts while Ethe-real Global tops the chart, so i'm not your competitor but your superior." I said, emphasis on 'my woman'. I noticed the surprised look on davina's face, but it was nothing compared to the seething anger on maxwell's.

I held davina's hand and pulled her along as i attempted to get back into the elevator, but she halted, or so i thought. When i turned around, i saw maxwell holding her her as well;
"Miss sanchez hasn't closed from work yet, neither is it lunch time. You can't take her away."

"Effective immediately, she no longer works for you." I replied, trying to pry her hand out of his.

"Her contract isn't over, she still has three months left."

"I don't care how long she has left, she's done here."

"Why not let the lady speak for herself, i'm sure she still has a lot to do here. Isn't that right, davina colton?"

Davina gazed at him in utter shock, she withdrew her hand from him immediately and stepped away.
"What are you talking about?"

"You didn't think i wouldn't find out, huh?" He laughed, "Oh my naive ex-wife, did you miss me so much you had to do all this?"

"Let's go davina." I pulled her into the elevator.

"I'm sure we'll be united with our son soon!"

Damn! That bastard!

"He knows, how did he know? When did he know?"

"I don't know, i need to get you to a safe place right now." The elevator opened and we walked out and got into the car.

"What does he mean by that? What is he talking about 'being united with our son' huh?"

"Calm down."

"I can't calm down, he knows about adrian, how the fuck did this happen?!"

"I don't know yet! Just relax please." I said, taking the next turn and checking to see if we're being followed. But i didn't think maxwell will, he already had what would lure davina to him.

"Where are we going? This isn't the route to the apartment."

"You're not safe at the apartment."

"Then take me to adrian's school. I need to go get him first, and lilian....." she opened her handbag and took out her cellphone.

"What are you doing?"

"Lilian must have picked him up, i need to....."

"No." I took her cellphone and threw it out the window.

"What did you do that for?"

"Adrian's been kidnapped davina." I said, she was quietly staring at me like she didn't hear what i said, but i know she did, she was in shock.
"Breath Davina."
