CHAPTER THIRTY FOUR

Davina's POV

Zane was placed in the ICU after the surgery, we weren't allowed to see him just yet until after a full twenty four hours supervision, which gave kayden and i time to return home and freshen up. Adrian ran towards me, i stooped to hug and kiss him;

"Mom, is my buddy going to be okay? I miss him." He said.

"I'm sure he's going to be fine, he has to be, he doesn't have a choice."

"Really? Why?"

"Because he has to come back to his family." Grandma replied, she walked out of her room to the living room with the aid of her metal cane, she looked tired like she hadn't had any sleep.

Adrian went to her.
"You look so tired gran-gran, are you sick too?"

Gran-Gran? Wha....when did he....

"Adrian." I called

Grandma Hudson actually chuckled, that was the first time i saw her smile.
"Grandma is very strong, i cannot get sick."

"That's good, because i really get scared when uncle zee falls sick everytime, my mommy and i had to take care of him. Actually mom did more work because i had school, but when i return home, i help too."

That's enough son, don't poke the tigress while she sleeps.

Grandma Hudson stared at me briefly, then said to adrian.
"I have to thank you then for taking care of my grandson."

"You're welcome gran-gran." She and adrian chuckled.

"Davina, go have a hot bath and eat something, we'll be returning to the hospital soon." Kayden said from the balcony.

"No." Grandma objected, "Let her have some sleep, i'll come with you instead, she can go later." She said.

"Can i come too?" Adrian asked.

"Ad....." i tried to speak but grandma interrupted.

"Of course, as long as you promise to behave okay."

"I promise."

I took the stairs up to the room zane and i shared, sitting on the bed and taking his pillow to my nose, i inhaled his scent and tears welled up again. There was a knock on the door and i quickly wiped the tears away;

"Come in."

Grandma Hudson walked in.
"Davina." That was the first time she used my name.

"Yes ma'am."

"I..i came to say..thank you. Adrian mentioned how you took care of caden whenever he fell sick, actually i met him crying when i returned home. He's really fond of caden, just like caden is quite fond of you. Thank you davina for being with him through this."

"You don't have to thank me grandma hudson, zane has done a lot for me...."

"You don't have to be modest with me, i know you love him and he made it quite clear he loves you too. At first, i never wanted him to be with you because...well, you're..."

"An ex-felon?"

"It's not like you actually committed any crime anyway. I hope you can forgive me child, i haven't been fair to...."

"I don't bare any grudge ma'am....."

"Grandma is fine, and just say you forgive me."

"Okay...grandma, i forgive you." I smiled as i went to hug her.

At noon, we were finally allowed to go in only in pairs to see zane, covered up in a gown, glove and mask of course, grandma and kayden went in first. I went in with adrian afterwards;
"Oh zane, please you have to wake up soon. I'm sorry, i'm so sorry...."

Adrian suddenly began to cry and i couldn't stop my tears either, i had to take him out immediately at the nurses request.
"Oh no." Grandma said when she saw him.

Adrian went to her and she hugged him. "Are you sure he's going to be okay gran-gran? There are too many tiny tubes on him, i'm scared."

"He's going to be fine, he's a strong man. And you have to become strong too, else he will not be happy when he wakes up." Kayden said.

I got a call from sally demanding my presence at the station, apparently, lara sawyer requested to see me;
"Why? What does she want?"

"She has a couple of things to say to you. I'm sorry about what happened to mr. zane and i don't mean to pull you out from the hospital. But there's someone you need to see."

"Who's that?"

"Get here first."

I sighed.
"Fine, i'm on my way." I hung up

Kayden frowned, he asked;
"Going somewhere?"

"Sally asked to see me for something important."

"She should be requesting your presence in court, why the station?"

"She said she wants me to meet someone."

"Then i'm coming with you."

"You don't have to...."

"Let him, adrian and i will head home now." Grandma said.

Kayden and i arrived at the station, and i was taken to lara's cell, she was already looking like dirt, all those luxury were gone. She slowly stood up when she saw me, came close to the bar and began to drop hoax tears.
"I should have known you where her when i first saw you." She looked at me from top to bottom.
"You changed so much, i...."

"Say exactly what it is you have to say."

"I know maxwell and i hurt you, no apologies can soothe that. But pease davina, let me see my grandson."

"Never! He is 'NOT' your grandson, he'll never be."

"You can't keep our existence away from him forever, i don't know why we're being accused of things we know nothing, but maxwell and i are innocent."

"Really, you think there are no hard evidence against you both?" I laughed when her eyes bulged.
"If adrian was the reason you asked to see me, forget it! I will see you both in court, bloody murderers." I walked away.

Sally took kayden and i to the interrogation room, we looked at the woman who sat inside;

"That's Jenny!" Kayden yelled.

"Yes."

"What is she doing here?" I asked.

"Well, she is maxwell's girlfriend."
