"Scarlett!"
I froze at my locker, math textbook halfway to my bag, and was surprised to find Allison barreling down the hallway. Over the first few weeks of school, we'd fallen into an easy routine: I would go to my locker, meet Allison at hers, and then we'd walk to English together. I didn't have a problem inversing it, but I was already preparing myself for some massive blow to my morning. Allison looked like she was beaming, so it was probably good news. Still, I knew that could mean another day of gossiping about Scott McCall.
"Hey, slow down there," I said as she sprinted the last few feet. "Good morning to you too, Allison."
She laughed, resting one hand on her hip as she caught her breath. "Hi!"
"Hi. You good?"
"I am great! My Aunt Kate just got into town last night, so she drove me this morning. She's like my favorite relative and she's coming to stay with us for a while."
"Oh, well that's fun," I said, relaxing. That news I could handle. "Is she as intense as your parents?"
"No! Well, kind of, but in a totally different, cool kind of way. She's really awesome, and I want you to come over to meet her sometime. I have a feeling you two are gonna get along."
"Aw, I get to meet the family?"
"Well, yeah. I mean she's gonna want to meet my best friend..."
I dropped my teasing smile for a genuine one, nudging Allison's shoulder. She grinned back, albeit a little bashfully. I didn't want to get into the whole "aw thank you" "no thank you" argument, but we were pretty close.
"All right then," I said instead, snapping my locker shut. "So, when should I come over to meet Badass Aunt Kate?"
"Um, I was thinking tomorrow or the day after?" she offered. "I'd have you come today, but you know, I guess she wants to get settled, and um...I'm having Scott over to study, so..."
I grabbed her by the shoulder, pulling her to a stop five steps into our journey to English. "Woah, okay, way to bury the lead!"
"I don't know what you're talking about," Allison said quickly, contradicted by the very obvious blush on her cheeks.
"Oh, really? So you weren't trying to build up to the fact that you invited Scott over for a make out session?"
"It's not a make ou—"
"A make out session at your house, by the way, with your family on the other side of the door, which is—I mean that's so, incredibly brazen of you."
"It's not a make out session," she insisted, swatting my arm and walking away. "It is a study session. Seriously!"
"Mhm," I replied, completely unconvinced and enjoying her discomfort. "Right, of course. Well, I hope you're doing well in all your classes, because the only thing you and Scott are gonna be studying is anatomy."
Allison laughed incredulously, shoving me through the door of the English classroom. I giggled, proceeding her down the aisle where Scott and Stiles were already seated. I tapped the corner of Scott's desk as I passed, leaning down to tease "good luck" in a singsong voice. Scott looked up in confusion, and Allison pushed me past him.
"Sit down!" she hissed.
I held up my hands in defense, smirking and taking a seat.
In my defense, I did try and keep the teasing to a minimum after that. I'd throw out the occasional pun, poke her in the side with a smile, but nothing in front of Scott. Honestly, Scott seemed so naïve, I wasn't sure he even knew what he'd agreed to when he said he would come over to study, but I was certain he'd be thrilled when he found out.
