Hyunjin was walking to his room that night thinking about Minho's apology and smiled. Things would never be the same, probably, but he appreciated that Minho was trying to at least make things right.
It was better to make friends and not enemies.
He walked in to see Changbin already there on his phone leaning against the headboard. His head snapped up hearing the door, and he smiled, putting his phone down.
"You look happy." Changbin noticed, and Hyunjin went to sat beside him.
"I am." He replied.
"And why is that?" Changbin asked, making Hyunjin turn around and face him with his hands in his own.
"I just have a feeling we haven't completely lost Minho and that the old one is still in there somewhere." Hyunjin voiced.
"Well, I promised I would tell you something 3 days ago, and we never got around to it. Do you wanna hear it tonight, or do you wanna stay in a happy mood?" Changbin questioned.
"I wanna hear it tonight. Please?" Hyunjin knew exactly what he was asking, and he didn't care how happy he was right now, Changbin was more important.
"Just bear in mind that it's not exactly a happy story." Changbin warned, making Hyunjin nod.
"You know I never had my mother, only my father. But I don't think I ever told you how my father died." Changbin began.
"I found out that my mother cheated on my father and had a baby. My half brother. I don't know who or where he is, but I know he exists. When my father found out that it wasn't his son, out of anger, he killed her." Hyunjin was shocked to hear the last statement but didn't say anything about it.
"He never found her son, meaning he's still out there somewhere, but then someone came and killed my father to avenge my mother. Trust me, it's very messy. It wasn't the son, but it was probably the guy she cheated on him with. When he found out that it was my father who killed her, he...." Changbin paused and took a deep breath. Hyunjin held his hand tighter and reminded him that he's there.
"He lit my father on fire while he was asleep. It was me who ended up running into my father's room to see him screaming and trying to put the flames out, despite most of his body already being burnt. I couldn't stop it either because.... I froze."
"My father was being burnt alive, and all I could do was watch because my body couldn't even listen to my brain and move an inch. I was paralysed. A few minutes later, he dropped to the floor, burned head to toe, and I still didn't move. I couldn't. Then, one of the gang members found me after hearing the screams and took care of the situation." Changbin's hands were shaking his eyes held shame, and fear, along with his tears.
"Do you know who it was?" Hyunjin asked softly, and Changbin shook his head.
"I don't know who it was, but their mind automatically went to the fact that I killed him. But obviously I didn't and I told them to check security footage. It was a man whose face was covered with a hood, and he was wearing black head to toe."
"That's how my father died. And that's why I get nightmares. All I can see in my mind is my father on fire and me just standing there watching." Changbin continued.
"I can't even go back to sleep because of the fear that I'll wake up on fire. Hyunjin, you don't understand how much I hate myself, I'm so ashamed I couldn't even move when I saw my father dying." Changbin's tears fell, and Hyunjin moved to wipe them away.
"That's not your fault, Bin. That's a completely normal instinct when seeing something like that." Hyunjin comforted.
"No, Hyunjin. A normal instinct would be to help my father. Not stand there and watch." Changbin turned his head away, but Hyunjin held his face in his hands and made him look at him again.
