"Mer, you're not okay." Mark frowned while Addison had taken Maddie to go shopping and he had stayed home with Meredith who was in a lot of stomach pain
"It hurts so much-" Meredith struggled really hard to focus
"Let me feel." Mark demanded and started checking her out. "I don't really notice that much. Maybe you should go to the hospital and get a scan taken." Mark suggested
"Mads will be home in a bit." Meredith groaned
"I'll drive you there quickly, Addie and Mads can stop by at mom and dad and once you're ready we'll pick them up." Mark suggested
"Fine." Meredith whimpered as she tried to sit up
"Let me help you up." Mark said, not wanting to show her how much he worried about her. He helped her into his car and drove her to the hospital, parking as close as he could and taking her inside with him straight to the ER
"Grey? Sloan? What are the two of you doing here?" Bailey walked up to them
"Mer feels very bad, can you check her out? I don't feel anything weird, I think you have to take a scan and ultrasound." Mark explained her while Meredith was really pale and just super tired from being awake most of the night
"Of course, I'll send you for the scans right away." Bailey nodded and got a wheelchair for Meredith, frowning as she didn't protest

After the scans Meredith was brought to an examination room where Mark had lifted her onto the table. She was curled in a ball while Mark rubbed her back softly
"Where's Bailey?" Mark groaned annoyed
"She's busy.." Meredith muttered and started whimpering
"It's gonna be okay, she'll give you some meds soon." Mark whispered, continuing to rub her back softly
"Meredith?" Bailey entered the room, Mark immediately noticed something was really wrong
"Hmm.." Meredith finally opened her eyes
"Sweetie.. We found a tumor in your stomach and some mets around your bowels.." Bailey started. "We gotta operate, it's in the way and causes you a lot of pain."
"Is it cancer?" Mark asked, not believing this
"We assume, we'll know more after the surgery. But.. they are large and take over a lot of your stomach, we're afraid we'd have to place a colostomy bag and a feeding tube." Bailey honestly said. "Hopefully not permanent."
"No.." Meredith muttered, closing her eyes. "No. No. No."
"I'm sorry, Mer." Mark held her as she started sobbing, she was so scared right now
"We'd want to do the surgery as fast as we can.." Bailey started carefully. "Maybe this afternoon or tomorrow morning?"
"Mads.." Meredith muttered. "She doesn't need to know about this yet before we know it's bad."
"Are you sure? I don't think you can hide surgery from her." Mark frowned
"No.. but I don't have to say this might be cancer." Meredith sighed. "You can do the surgery today, the sooner the better."
"Do you want me to call Addie to come over with Maddie?"
"Yes." Meredith nodded. Mark left while Bailey started explaining everything
"Any questions?" Bailey asked her
"Just- Don't let me die. Maddie needs a mother." Meredith begged Bailey
"I'll do everything I can." Bailey promised
The next half an hour went extremely slow, her head went crazy as she waited for Maddie
"Mommy?" She finally walked inside the room where Meredith had been getting ready for surgery
"Monkey-" Meredith pushed herself up and hugged her daughter tight
"What's wrong? Why are you here? Why are you in a gown?" Maddie was visibly worried
"Honey, calm down.." Meredith held her daughter's hand and her eyes begged Mark and Addie to leave the room for a minute
"But mommy-" Maddie whimpered
"Sweetie, I need surgery, okay? Dr Bailey will perform the surgery and uncle Mark will stay close. I'll need to stay here for a few nights, just to recover from the surgery. I can still see you of course."
"But why do you need to stay here?" Maddie frowned
"It's a bigger surgery. They gotta check inside what's going on with me, okay?" Meredith stroke her fingers through her daughter's hair as it usually calms her down
"Will I stay at home with aunt Addie then?"
"Most of the time, yes. Uncle Mark will be there, nana and poppa will help if needed and you can come here so we can watch some tv and try to have some fun together, okay?" Meredith kissed Maddie's head
"Okay.." Maddie whispered and clinged onto her mom.
"I think you should beg aunt Addie to come with you to the amusement park." Meredith giggled softly, trying to distract her daughter
"Maybe." Maddie smiled softly. "Can I come see you tonight? Please?"
"I probably won't be awake yet, sweetie. Why don't you come tomorrow for breakfast?" Meredith suggested, fighting her tears back
"Okay.." Maddie nodded softly. "I love you, mommy."
"I love you too, monkey. So, so much." Meredith kissed her cheek softly. "I'm so proud of you, my princess."
In the hallway Mark had just told Addison the news. The redhead was close to bursting inside and crying but Mark had her calm down, they needed to be okay for Maddie right now
"Take her somewhere fun, I'll stay with Mer and I'll call as soon as I know more, okay?" Mark rubbed his wife's back softly
"Mark-" Addie whispered. "She needs to be okay.."
"She will be. She's though." Mark said, although he had a feeling this was bad, Bailey's face had scared him
"Let's go inside again. I wanna hug Mer." Addison said, not letting go of her husband's hand
"Hey, look who's here. I think Maddie wants to take you to the theme park." Meredith forced a smile on her face
"Theme park"? Me?" Addison chuckled but couldn't stop looking at her best friend
"Maybe nana and poppa can come too?" Maddie muttered, not that excited
"Do you think I'm not fun enough? We can go together and have dinner at nana and poppa's house, how does that sound?" Addison suggested
"Okay." Maddie softly smiled
"Come on, princess. Let's get ready." Addison said, Maddie and Meredith hugging one last time before she had surgery
"Bye monkey, I love you. I'll call as soon as possible and otherwise I'll see you tomorrow at breakfast." Meredith said
"Bye mommy." Maddie said, Addison quickly went to hug her best friend
"You got this." Addison whispered, feeling Meredith squeeze her hand. "Bye bye."
Meredith sighed, suddenly feeling all kinds of emotions coming up and starting to cry
Sorry i had issues uploading last night, i hope this one will reach you guys because im so so so excited about this story and to see your reactions. I hope everyone likes it, i try to make this different from most of my stories but 40 is getting harder to be original hahaha.
