-WTF-
RAYA KOLEVA'S POV
I nudge Eva impatiently, "Call her again."
"The number you—" Eva hangs up abruptly, silencing the pre-recorded voice.
My brain starts firing off red flags, flashing all over the place. It's been ten minutes and still no sign of her.
Most people would just brush off poor tardiness, but not us, not with Pam. It's not in her nature to be late, and she would've let us know if she was running behind.
"Check her tracker and locate her." I tap my heel with an ick, waiting for Eva's magic fingers to tap quicker and get my curiosity fed.
The tap soon turns to fast pacing around the room, as the question occupying my mind loops on repeat.
Where the hell did she lose herself???
"Why the fuck is she there for?" Eva huffs in annoyance.
"Where?" I start walking back towards her, crossing my arms.
"Her office. But, she's not alone." Eva's voice fell flat.
"Why would someone be in her office? It's off limits." I push myself closer to the small CCTV projection coming from her watch, inspecting the idiot; following the drop of my jaw as soon as I recognize the person across from her.
"This doesn't make sense..." Eva scoffs.
"Do you think is possible they're having an affair behind Deva's bac—" My voice falters behind the ping notification that pops on Eva's watch, scaring the crap out of me.
"Deva's here. We're meeting her at her favorite room." I gulp immediately, clearing my throat in discomfort.
"And Pam?" I look back to the screen.
"They're only talking. No affair there. Let's not make our don wait, shall we?" Eva speeds towards the lift, calling it to our floor.
Just then my mind registers the actual threat for tonight.
"Where did you say we were meeting Deva again?"
I step into the lift, my palms slick with sweat, which I wipe against my dress.
"Her favorite room." Eva deadpans and voices, "minus two" to the artificial intelligence that operates our lift.
The torture room...
This could only mean trouble in all caps. The wheels in my brain begin to spin as I reenact my life all the way from the last time I entered that god forsaken hell on my induction day. But nothing out of the ordinary pops up. I should be in the fucking clear!
I haven't failed any of my assigned missions, nor snitched either. Eva is also in the clear since we are thick as thieves. I guess her going there with me takes off the pressure a little. Although, I can't take my guard down just because I have her with me.
"Did Deva tell you why she wants to meet us there?" I see Eva dropping her hand and not texting any longer.
"She will when we meet her." She takes a step forward just as the doors open her pathway. I don't buy it, but I don't prolong my curiosity this time. I will get my answer anyway, but knots build and twist inside my stomach, as if my death sentence is near.
I haven't done anything to get killed. I haven't betrayed anyone. It will be fine. I keep on loop inside my head. But no matter how many times I kept on repeating these words, I couldn't help myself but feel unease the whole way there. My gut was literally screaming there was something wrong all the way to that damn room.
