They walked for a while until they noticed a large cloud of smoke not far from them. "Oh great mother, what happened here?" asked Nirema as she stepped onto a cliff and looked down into the former settlement. All the houses were destroyed and sunk, embers still lay between many wooden beams. The small group of three went closer to what had happened. While Arondir and Bronwyn walked around together, Nirema looked closely at a few dead animals.

They had been deliberately killed and their innards were scattered on the ground, well what was left of them. She noticed something else behind the dead animal, a hole. No, a tunnel.

Despite her gut feeling, she decided to follow it. It was dark in there and damp. Nirema could feel everything alive, the flow of the smallest drops of water.

Suddenly she heard a rustling behind her. She turned around, but there was nothing there. She turned back to the front and continued walking, hearing the rustling again, but now it was a shuffling, a shuffling of feet. Nirema walked faster and the shuffling became faster until something was suddenly pulled over her head and everything went black.

She was woken up by a loud roar. Nirema looked around but didn't recognize her surroundings. "Nirema, over here," she heard a voice, Arondir's. She moved towards him, but not without noticing the chains on her feet. "What's going on here, Arondir, where are we?" she asked, confused and frightened. A slightly older elf stepped forward: "They're forcing us to dig a tunnel, but we don't know what for."

Nirema looked around again very carefully and now noticed all the orcs watching her. Oh, lovely.

Then she noticed that she didn't have a shovel to dig with. So she went to one of the orcs: "Excuse me, but I can't work without a shovel. Could I have one, please?"

Amazed by her friendly voice, the orcs stood in front of her with their mouths slightly open. A slightly smaller orc came with a shovel and gave it to her. "Thank you very much," Nirema thanked him and went to work. Arondir and a few other prisoners stared at her with their mouths open. "What?" she asked. Arondir came closer to her: "Why are you treating them so...kindly?" Nirema looked at him questioningly: "Why not? They are inhabitants of Middle Earth, just like you and me. No matter what they have done in their past, it doesn't change that. It's how I see the world. Everything and everyone deserves kindness." Arondir seemed to have a hard time understanding her words, but continued to pay no attention.

They dug further and further but were stopped by a tree. Arondir was talking to other elves behind her. "Sew those lips and dig Elf!" one of the orcs called to the elves. Nirema heard something about the tree being torn out, which was against the elves' norms. Another orc came with a weapon and threatened the elves. Now all attention was on the three elves. The oldest of the three elves said something that made the orcs laugh and one of the higher-ranking orcs stepped forward. He gave them a jug of water. The elves looked at each other sceptically but then took the jug. The older elf took a sip first, then Arondir and then the third elf.

Suddenly everything happened very quickly. With a quick swing, the orc slit the third elf's throat. Nirema ran forward quickly and pressed her hand to the wound. Arondir stepped next to me and looked at the young elf whose eyes were draining of life. Arondir looked down sadly. "I will cut it! I WILL CUT IT DOWN," he shouted, took an axe and started while the now-dead elf was taken away. Nirema went to the orcs: "Is it possible to wash the blood off my hands?" One of the orcs pointed to a small water hole. Nirema nodded thankfully and went to the water hole.

While she was washing her hands, she noticed a grate behind which a kind of dog was padding back and forth. She went closer. The 'dog' jumped at the grate, which frightened her, and bared its teeth. Nirema knelt down in front of him and held out her hand. The 'dog' first sniffed and then licked it. Nirema giggled until an orc called to her and she had to leave again.

Time passed and the tree was now felled. But the roots still had to be dug out. Nirema thought a lot about this place and the orcs, how different they were than she remembered. They were still ruthless monsters but something had changed, they wanted to live.

She was torn from her thoughts by another commotion. The elves who were trapped in the tunnel made a commotion and tried to escape, as did the other prisoners. They tried to loosen their chains. Arondir wanted to loosen Nirema's chains, but she backed away. A loud growl made everyone freeze, it was the 'dog'. He ran towards Arondir, who tried to dodge. Arondir 'locked' the 'dog' under the roots and wanted to escape over the edge of the large lock when he was pulled down and a knife was put to his neck.

Nirema was also pulled back, but she wondered why, as she neither tried to fight the orcs nor tried to break free of her bonds. Nirema also had a knife put to her throat, but a little further away from direct contact with her skin.

(A/N): LOOK AT HOW PRETTY HE IS. Sorry, so here is the second chapter and they meet sooner than expected. Also FYI it might take longer for updates since I'm in college rn but I will try. Another thing I will be using both gifs of Sam's portrayal of Adar but also Joseph's both of them are great.

Also enjoy a video of Sam's old band.
