Frostkit woke to her sister stepping on her head. Frostkit mewled in protest and she heard her brother, Duskkit, giggle along with Gingerkit, her sister. Frostkit cracked a sleepy eye open, and saw Duskkit dangling a piece of bracken on her nose. Frostkit sneezed and rose, growling softly while glaring at her littermates in distaste.

"Soooorrrrrrrrrry, Frostkit." Duskkit warbled, wagging the bracken. Gingerkit looked away, and Duskkit stamped on Gingerkit's foot with a meaningful glance at Frostkit, still huddled in the corner. Gingerkit yelped in pain and rolled her eyes.

"Sorry." Gingerkit muttered mildly, slapping Duskkit purposefully on the face with her tail. A small tug on Frostkit's tail made her turn, and Smokekit turned on a mischievous look and darted away. Frostkit hissed after him.

"Why are you all bothering me?" Frostkit wailed, pawing the ground. A shadow passed by her and she looked up into the dark green eyes of five-moon-old Pearlkit. Pearlkit waved her tail and left the nursery, leaving the glum-faced Frostkit alone to deal with the nap-teasers. Pearlkit's brother, Peakkit, hurried after Pearlkit, only stopping to warn the nap-teasers.

"Leave Frostkit alone to sleep, you mouse-brains. Otherwise I'll wake you up when you're taking your nap." Peakkit mewed, causing Gingerkit to flinch. Peakkit left silently as an even taller shadow appeared at the doorway, and a scent Frostkit had breathed in ever since she was born. Mother.

"Momma!" Duskkit cried, throwing away the bracken he was fiddling with and racing over to leap onto the silver cat's shoulders. Well, more like a scrabble as Duskkit almost made it up, digging his claws into Silverwing's shoulder fur and hauling himself up. Frostkit's vision became blurry as sleep wafted over her.

"WAKE UP!!!!" Gingerkit cried into Frostkit's ear, making Frostkit leap into the air, slamming her shoulder on Gingerkit's chin.

"OW!" Gingerkit yelped, falling onto her haunches and rubbing her chin. Frostkit heard an unfamiliar rumble of laughter, and she saw a white warrior with a cream colored paw watching Frostkit and Gingerkit. Frostkit's gaze wafted onto the warrior's leg, where the paw was twisted the wrong way. Silverwing sat beside him, rubbing her cheek on the warrior's head. Duskkit approached the stranger warily, sliding from Silverwing's back.

"Who are you?" Duskkit asked, gazing wide-eyed at the intimidating warrior. He let out another of those rumbly laughs, and crouched to peer at Duskkit, who was standing tall, but his quivering tail revealed that he was fearful.

"I'm Glassfoot." The white warrior said, "Your father."

"Dada?" Gingerkit said skeptically. Glassfoot nodded vigorously, back on his haunches. Gingerkit examined her paws, which were a ginger color that didn't match Silverwing's or Glassfoot's coloring.

"Then how am I a different color than both of you?" Gingerkit asked.

"Maybe you got it from my brother, Cloudberry." Glassfoot said, and shrugged. Gingerkit cocked her head at him. Duskkit poked Glassfoot's twisted paw, and he grunted, bowling Duskkit away.

"Leave Glassfoot's paw alone." Silverwing mewed sternly, bopping Duskkit on the head with her paw as he squealed in protest.

"Why's dada's paw like that, momma?" Frostkit asked curiously, wandering over to Silverwing sub-consciously. Frostkit felt Silverwing stiffen under her as she leaned against her mother's chest, tucking her forepaws under her body.

"It's because I was in a battle with SnowClan." Glassfoot mewed, resting his cream-colored, twisted paw on Frostkit's teeny-tiny paws. Frostkit shivered as the weird-feeling paw touched her small paws. Above her, Silverwing nudged Glassfoot's paw away. Glassfoot heaved a heavy sigh.
