"Stay right here," Kade says, walking back into the bathroom. I spot on his nightstand a black silk scarf—and it's clear as day he already had this night planned out whether it was going to be with me or another woman.
"So," I start, trying not to sound as nervous as the fluttering in my stomach would suggest. "Is this the part where you show me your collection of medieval torture devices?"
Kade chuckles, walking back out of the bathroom with another towel in his hand. "Only if you want to see them," he teases back, wrapping the towel around my wet hair. Wow, this man definitely knows how to make a girl's heart race. He leans in close, his breath warm against my ear. "Or I could show you something a bit more pleasurable," he murmurs, low and seductive.
I blush, adverting my eyes to anywhere but his as he continues to dry my hair. Finally, he tosses the towel aside and gently presses down on my shoulders until I'm seated on the edge of the bed. He picks up the scarf, taking one end of it and running it across his hand contemplatively.
My heart does another somersault, racing along an unknown track. "Just promise me one thing?"
"Anything."
"That you'll keep it more Fifty Shades and less American Horror Story."
His laughter fills the room this time; genuine and unexpectedly joyful. He nods in agreement, then slowly approaches to blindfold me with the scarf. As darkness envelops my vision, heightening every other sense I have left unobstructed, Kade whispers close enough that his lips brush my earlobe slightly, sending yet another set of shivers down my spine.
"As I said before, trust me." he nips at my earlobe while his hands skillfully tie a knot that is secure yet careful. "You'll enjoy this." He removes my towel and the cool air sends a wave of goosebumps all over my body. "Are you scared?"
"No," I reply, trying to keep my voice steady.
"Not even a little?" Kade's voice is playful, teasing out my nerves like he's plucking strings on a guitar.
"Maybe just a pinch," I admit, trying to match his playful tone despite the blindfold amplifying every sound and touch. He chuckles—a sound that seems to vibrate directly into my chest—and then I feel the soft touch of his fingers tracing down my arm, evoking a shiver that I can't control.
"Good," he murmurs, his voice closer now. "A little fear makes things... interesting."
I can feel him moving around me, the slight shift in air pressure as he explores the space. Suddenly, there's the faintest hint of something sweet and citrusy in the air—his cologne, maybe? It's alluring. Then, without warning, I feel a light kiss pressed against the nape of my neck. It's gentle yet possessive, marking yet comforting.
"Kade," I breathe out his name without thinking, a silent plea for more.
He doesn't answer with words. I feel his hands on my shoulders again, guiding me back down to lie on the bed. The sheets are cool against my skin. My heart races because I'm letting a fucking stranger tie me up. The sound of something unzipping nearby makes my heart jump.
